Thanks Terri.. This is my 1st time integrating also. Parenting children or chicks has its trials and tribulations, I would love for them to get along but just tonight we let the older ones out and they still hang around the outside fence line where the babies are. Occasionally the babies will...
We have 3 yr olds (8 hens,1 roo) and have then housed in a coop with nest boxes and have a run for them that is 30 x 40 ft. They free range nightly.
We purchased 1 day olds who are now 10 wk old toddlers (15 pullets and the 1 unexpected roo) . They are housed in a converted bus stop no...
So sorry for what you are going through, it is a hard decision to make,
We are also facing this same thing with a lame hen and can find no reason for it. She was fine when we let them out to range Saturday and fine when we let them back in. The hubby found her just lying there Sunday and...
Mine get at least 14 hrs of light. I adjust using a timer about 30 minutes increments over a couple wks time so it doesn't confuse them. And that is added in the am rather than the pm
Thanks Fred and glad to see a close neighbor in the group, really appreciate your experience. I thought the same thing about getting girls this past spring for this seasons laying but the hubby thought waiting would be the answer. Now I have to wait until spring again. And I do know that the...
My head is spinning at this point after reading all the postings about Egg Yolk Peritonitis and internal laying leading up to this posting ... I am so sorry for everyone's losses...
I too have suspected that I have a problem within our flock of (14) 2-1/2 yr old hens. This is a new adventure...

I did watch the video and the way he does it, the rooster did...
Thanks for the bumps and the information I wasn't too sure if it could be posted into 2 forums at the same time. I will have to check that out.
Currently we have BO, BR, EE and Isa Brns and while their eggs are all different it is still hard to tell which ones of each breed are laying...

We have a 3 yr old B. Rock who started stumbling 3 days ago with the occasional falling over. We checked her over and can not see anything else wrong with her. She is in with 14 other chickens and no sign with the others. The weather here is mild in the 70 so I don't believe it is weather...
dawg... that is exactly what we did last night but nothing but blood came out.
So squeeze up around the top area that appears to be a previous one, squeezing it down towards the open hole?
Should the hubby continue to scrape the inside of existing hole up towards then top area to try to...
what I also should have said is that that area was there on Sunday prior to us doing the 1st surgery (look at the 1st picture with the blue vetwrap just before wrapping it up)
The soaking we have done was with the Epsom salts in warm water for about 10 min.
On Sunday we dug out some gunk but...
