Do we think this chicken can heal?

Meloxicam is something that many vets prescribe for pain and inflammation. I would not use aspirin since bleeding could be a concern. I would use some Hibiclens chlorhexidene (about $6 at Walmart in the bandaid aisle) and water or some weak Betadine (Equate First Aid Antiseptic also at Walmart)...

    X rays on lethargic hen

Oh, I am very sorry to hear that about your hen. I am glad that you were able to see the vet and get a diagnosis. This way, it will help in making your decision. It is hard to put one down, but you then won’t have to watch her suffer.

    X rays on lethargic hen

Dehydration can be another cause for the yellow urates, but usually it is liver related when I have seen it. Hopefully, the thigh is not fractured because that can be difficult to splint.

Do we think this chicken can heal?

It sounds like she has a good chance of recovering. Wounds like this can fill in over several weeks if you can prevent infection. It is good that you trimmed feathers away from the wound. Keep it clean with saline or wound spray, and keep it from drying out with antibiotic ointment twice a day...

    X rays on lethargic hen

She is still passing yellow urates in her droppings which are probably due to liver issues related to a reproductive disorder, such as salpingitis or cancer. A full crop may indicate that her crop is not emptying due to pressure inside her abdomen. Does her lower belly under the vent look...

    B complex dosage

Glad that Wyorp Rock answered your question. I haven’t been on as much this week. Have you seen any other chickens sneezing besides Ophelia? Have you seen any bubbles or foam in one eye or swelling of an eyelid or the face? I certainly hope that her problems are not related to Mareks. Hopefully...

Lethargic hen with pale comb hiding and acting strange

Sorry that I have ‘t been keeping up with your thread. I see where you have posted a new one with vet xrays of your hen. If I were you I would also post the xrays here, or link that thread to here, and keep updating this thread. I do think that your hen may have a reproductive disorder that may...

    Treatment of Lice

I have found some threads to read by people who have used Elector PSP: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/elector-psp-how-often-to-use-safe-to-use-with-permethrin.1564131/ https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/question-about-mites-and-elector-psp.1310904/

I’m glad that she is doing better.

Chicken has white worms in green and bloody poop.

Pictures of the droppings with the worms, and of the face and eye of the chicken with respiratory symptoms. Blood can be common with worms. You can worm the chickens with albendazole 1/2 ml (0.5 ml) given orally, and again after 10 days. Be sure to shake the bottle of wormer well before drawing...

    Possible Gout

To me that doesn’t look like gout which usually causes swollen lumpy toes and pain. The ankle joints (especially the left one) look a bit enlarged which is seen with mycoplasma synovitis. Are the hock joints swollen at all? Could she have sprained or fractured her left ankle in the past?

    Polish Rooster possible infection?

The scabs may be due to his scratching at the lice. In Canada, permethrin is not available. If you have a local vet, they might prescribe something for the lice. Some use a spot on product in a tiny dose, which might be used since he doesn’t lay eggs. Lice hatch from the eggs about every 10...

    Wheezing/Hoarse Chicken

I would look into her beak for anything out of the ordinary, such as mucus, food or any yellow gunk. How long since she has laid an egg? If you feel that she might be egg bound you can give her a calcium tablet or Tums orally.

    Brahma pullet with swollen leg

Hopefully, it is not MS. I’m not sure how old chicks are when swollen joints can show up. Please let us know how it gets along.

    Wheezing/Hoarse Chicken

Her crop would normally be mostly empty in the morning. If not, you can offer some chilled coconut oil cut into small pieces to peck, about a tsp twice a day. If the crop is full and firm, you can massage it to help break up an impaction. Offer lots of water. If her crop is squishy, then that...

    Brahma pullet with swollen leg

Is she getting around to food and water okay? You can give her some time and see how she does. I would agree that it looks like a leg bone deformity. Varus or valgus, or a rotated leg/tibia are the common ones, and can get worse as they grow up. We have seen a few who could get around in a small...

Are these worms in my eggs??

I would keep updating your thread daily in case there are more yolks like that, and hopefully someone will have seen something similar. Do all of the pullets seem active and doing well?

    Lethargic & unstable chicken

That looks like a clump of lice eggs. Did you see small tan bugs running around on her skin? Permethrin garden dust or spray, or Elector PSP can be used to treat her. Repeat it in 10 days. How old is she? Does she lay eggs? Can you offer some watery chicken feed and a bit of egg? Check her crop...

    Wheezing/Hoarse Chicken

Does she have any nasal drainage, bubbles or foam in one or more eyes, or any swelling around an eye or on the face? It can take days to a couple of weeks for respiratory disease symptoms to show up after being exposed by a carrier. Symptoms may point to which kind. Crop problems may make one...
