    Pullets/Hens in Upstate NY

Hey all! I'm looking to add some girls to my small flock. I currently have a Black Copper Maran hen, an Easter Egger pullet, BCM/Andalusian pullet, a black Silkie pullet, and a Cornish pullet. I'm very open to breeds but prefer colorful egg layers. I'm located in Jefferson County and would like...

    NON STOP crowing!

He keeps his distance and moves away when you move towards him. He will come close for treats and isn't aggressive toward the girls or us or the ducks. That's why he's still around lol

    NON STOP crowing!

Yes is is young. Hopefully he soon realizes it's absolutely unnecessary as the last 10 minutes he's been crowing at least every 30 seconds..

    NON STOP crowing!

I've had roosters before and have NEVER had one crow this much. Is it normal? I'm seriously ready to chop his head off

    NON STOP crowing!

They are our chickens that roam between our two properties (they have about a half acre and sold us 4 1/2)

    NON STOP crowing!

He did just start crowing like this, he's a late March chick so he is just reaching maturity I think. I have NO problem with a rooster crowing, that's why I decided to keep him and he is a good boy. I DO have a problem with a rooster that literally crows every 2-3 min ALLL day starting at 430am...

    NON STOP crowing!

I told her she needs to get it ordered today because my arm is getting tired of throwing everything I can find at him.

    NON STOP crowing!

Nope, we live on the edge of the village and no one I know even has chickens let alone a rooster.

    NON STOP crowing!

I have one rooster, and 25 hens. He crows NON STOP. I'm talking every 2-3 min his mouth is running. I'm sick of it and I'm ready to kill him at this point. My mother loves him though so I told her she needs to get a no-crow collar for him. Do they work? Is there anything else I can do to shut...

    Smelly sand in coop

@aart there are two windows which are always open, vented soccer and the door to the run is always open. Weather permitting, the door of the coop is propped open for the 12 or so hours they are free ranging. Many of the birds choose to roost in the covered part of the run, but that will be...

My Chicken is dying and I'm not sure how

I've had some hens with yellow foamy poop and am pretty sure they've got Cecal Worms. Has your hen ever been dewormed? I hope she's feeling better.

    Smelly sand in coop

Will work on getting the covered portion of the run enclosed..maybe it will help although they use it to roost currently. I've been wanting to build a little "duck house"..I guess I should start looking up plans for one lol. I tried deep litter in the past and wasn't happy with it. I switched to...

    Smelly sand in coop

Even though many of them choose to roost outside in the covered portion (lots of leftover roost space inside)? I plan on whittling down some before winter, but they will have the entire 128sqft as "coop". The ducks spend a majority of the time in the run when they are in, and they have almost 5...

    Smelly sand in coop

I have 30 birds (23 chickens, 7 ducks). The inside coop is 8x8, with a covered 8x8 run that they also roost in (and will be enclosed this fall to allow for a full 16x16 enclosed coop). Water is kept outside in the open area (which does stink after the rain). They are let out around 7:30 am and...

    Smelly sand in coop

I replaced the floor in my coop a couple of months ago, added poop boards and put sand in the coop as well for bedding. It.Smells.HORRIBLE. I clean it daily, and it still stinks. I know chickens are going to stink but is there anything I can add to it to help cut the smell a little? The poop...

    Poop pictures and WORMS!

Cecal and rounds. I haven't seen anything that looks like tapeworm segments, no evidence of gape worms. All birds are incredibly active with a healthy appetite. Most poop I see looks completely normal, just a few here and there that looked quite off. I've got 30 birds including the ducks in the...

So, not treating for 5 straight days?

    Poop pictures and WORMS!

I doubt it so I'll just have to catch them all. How often should I deworm after the 5 days? Sucks having to lose 2 weeks of production when some of mine are now starting to lay. I'm waiting for others..but if they have a high worm load, maybe that's keeping them from laying?

    Poop pictures and WORMS!

You think they'd cooperate? Nope. The worms I saw were round, about 1/2" long and very very thin (not flat). I'm hoping they aren't tapes. I'll do 5 days of Safeguard with probiotics in the water every day and see how they're doing. Most of the poop is normal, it seems like just a few younger...
