I was curious because of the difference in our climates. I sometimes see ever bearer plants for sale in spring but I've not tried to grow them.
The only fresh strawberries I see this time of year are at the grocery store. They are huge, hollow and just don't taste as good. Yours look good!
I planted Curly Giant and Old Fashioned Henpecked mustards yesterday. Still having to water, wish it would rain.
@R2elk Beautiful berries! Are they an everbearing type?
I have to do this too. I've been watering the runners. Hope to clean out the bed and pull old plants. Then replace with...
The Red Norlands I grow might would winter here as long as the ground was dry.
I don't think the sweet potatoes would make it. We do drop into the teens in winter. A few times in my life I recall it dropping below 10f for a few hours but that is not the norm.
Sorry for your troubles. You need to add a guage to keep a check on your tanks. Helps a lot.
If you unexpectedly ran out of propane, you may want to make sure you did not damage a line or fitting doing the floor repair. Be safe!
Get you an electric skillet for back up.
Carrot foliage.
When I harvested the last of the carrots in late spring, there were still some tiny immature plants. I just left them. Later I went to clean up the area they had started to bloom. Yellow and black swallowtail butterflies were all over the flowers. So I left them again. I...
Had to water all the newly planted brassicas and butterbeans today.
Then I dug 1 more sweet potato plant. When this slip first started growing I buried part of the vine along the trellis. This one had a lot more baking size potatoes. If I grow these again I will definately bury a portion of...
This week I found these while doing some garden clean up. I believe they are black swallowtail caterpillars. There are lots!
I watched this yellow swallowtail working the lantana. He was standing on his head! 🤣
How about some fluffy faces just because.
I planted a dozen broccoli plants in what was the melon bed.
Picked some scuppernongs.
I dug up one sweet potato plant.
I found these.
There are lots of these where the vine rooted in the ground. It started to rain so I had to stop. There are more of these small ones and at least 4 more...
I have an oval and a round crockpot. The oval is my favorite.
I used my oval this year to cook down some tomatoes into paste for canning. I didn't have to stand over a pot stirring. Took some time but I didn't have to worry about them scorching.
I will aways use this method in the future. It...
The first barn we built here was 24x30 on a concrete slab. It costed around $6000. That's how long ago it was. Today that same structure would be $$$$$. We have added some smaller barns and shelters since.
I think barns are like chicken coops. Build it larger than you think you need. Then if...
She is a beauty and so is her egg!
Me too! In all my time raising chickens I've never had bearded gals. Well I decided to fix that this year. 🤣
So I picked up 6 EE pullets about 11 or so weeks ago. I need to name them. Love the beards and they are so friendly, curious and comical...
Yes we do. I have a soaker hose on my butterbeans. I've been having to water everything I'm planting. Yesterday we were teased by a slight drizzle that lasted all of 5 minutes. Not enough to matter. Soil and compost is dusty.
There is a nearby sweet potato field that was planted about the same time as I set out my slips. They turned that field yesterday. There was 3 flat bed transfer trucks with huge wooden boxes stacked. I guess they are getting those SP today. I will dig my first SP plant as soon as I get...
This is my first year with sweet potatoes. I grew my slips from local grown SP. I don't know the variety. In reading I found there are 90, 100, and 120 day varieties. My slips were planted 107 days ago. They seem to love long very hot spells. We sure had that!
The risk of digging too early is...
