I've had her for about 5 or 6 months and she was 12 weeks old when I got her. She was much later laying that the other pullets I got at the same time (same age but different breeds). Never had a problem with her eggs. Now there's a chance that my older EE (who also lays blue eggs) laid it...
I found this egg this morning in my coop, obviously some kind of internal issue but I've never seen it before. It really looks more blood-red than is shown in the photo. Any ideas? Unfertilized as I don't have roosters.
Lol, my apologies, the middle pic is just for reference. I found it online after someone on FB suggested that breed! I had posted in my hometown listing and a couple of people think she belongs to a man about 10 blocks away. He used to have three black hens who would escape regularly. I...
This might be a silly question, but I'm wondering if anyone can give me a guess as to what color these chicks will be. Same rooster for all, a Lavender Ameracana and I'm told the hens were Red Comets (I hatched them for my brother-in-law). The little guy was almost a week later than the others.
Thank you all for your input. It really doesn't matter what she is but i am looking forward to seeing what color her eggs are. She was a big surprise but think she deserves a safe and social environment after the past couple of months.
I wondered about her age too but I don't have enough experience to even guess the age of a bird! I am just amazed that a coyote or a raccoon hadn't found her while she was in the woods!
My DH brought me this hen last night, a friend of his had quit keeping his chickens but this hen had escaped. She had been living in the woods for two months and coming to the nest box to lay. He caught her and now we have six hens. Is she an Australorp? The man said she lays brown eggs. Her...
At first I thought no way, it has to be cruel. But after reading reviews I'm going to look into getting a no-crow collar. Now I can name the little prince.
