Winters in the Netherlands are more wet than cold. Bc of climate change , longer periods with freezing cold days (below 0°C) become rare. It seems that ice skating at the lakes, canals and floodplains are becoming an exceptional event.
No mountains where I live, so the 30 -40 meter high hills...
:gig Please ask your partner or a neighbour to film this next winter if you have a spell of warm weather again. And of course you need to post it as a short on youtube.
.
There are many info pages and youtube help films available online.

How do I create Shorts?
Never done it but if you can cut of 15 seconds of your video its seems very...
💚🤩
You should put the first part of the video in a loop (short).
Would be marvellous to see an endless stream of chickens jumping through the pop door.
I use sand in the coop. And when /after I had a mite infestation I used sand (with DE) in the nest-boxes too. Just a thin layer with hay on top. Change the hay after max one week.
My chickens never took sand baths in the nest-boxes.
Part of it does. But I know we had a lot of very sick people (unrecoverable) who lived near goat farms from Qfever. Many patients (most farmers) with MRSA resistance bc of they used too much antibiotics (nowadays more restrictions but still).
Some people in the Netherlands and Europe think...
Sorry for your loss :hugs :hugs :hugs , and fingers crossed for the new life :fl.
Flocks evolve. Tears and joy.
And good luck with battling the stick flea. Did you ever try using a little diatomaceous earth in the sand bath?
Why would human untreated pathogens be much more of a hazard than those of pigs, goats or chickens (salmonella, campylobacter, MRSA, Q fever, bird flu…) ?
This thread is not meant to be used as a chat thread but I make an exception. You find your answer in @Perris’s article : https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/wholesome-homemade-feed-2.79307/
Mine works on batteries. The same for about 6 months now. Never got stuck.
I have a small overhang above the door. It only gets wet with rain + west wind.
Right, some questions are way too long to add.
But 1 or 2 extra keywords make a huge difference. And shortening the date to compensate is a possibility.
Notabitail suggestion:
QOTD, Jul 8th '25 how do you like your eggs? is (almost) perfect.
This would be great too imho. : Question OTD, Jul...
I bought a simple auto pop door with a light sensor (not adjustable , not on time). It works great for a humble €35.
There are similar auto pop doors that work on time too.
I suppose these rules and regulations are necessary bc people throw all kind of things in the toilets and sinks.
Human poop without anything else is very well compostable as long as the persons don’t use medicines.
Many people on BYC have a mixed flock, with a rooster(s) or older hens who dont lay (much). The layer feed has around 3.5-4% calcium for laying hens and is not healthy for chickens who don’t lay.
If you have 17, 18 week old (young) laying hens, layer feed is good to give too.
