When our chicken, Thelma, went broody recently we decided to repopulate the hen house by having her raise day old chicks. We slipped 5 chicks under her late at night and it worked like a charm! We have a chicken cam in the coop and baby monitor so I was able to watch her the next morning...
Update: Victoria went to the vet yesterday. She is gaining weight, but then it goes down again. (between 4lb 6.5 oz and 4lb 12 oz) Her fecals tested negative, and blood work showed a slight inflamation, but nothing too bad. Her liver values were slightly raised probably due to her weight...
Slight weight increase today. 4.64 yesterday; 4.67 today. Comb color is looking better, eating big girl crumble today along with her mash. Will feel better when she gets back over 6, better yet, 7 lbs.
The turn around is hopeful. Her comb is still pale, but her wattles have good color and aren't shriveled and curled up so much. It's hard to see just how skinny she is, but even that is changing for the better. I was overjoyed to see that white solid pee in her poop. It's been runny ick for...
Here's an update: We are having a difficult time finding a vet who will run a fecal for a chicken without seeing her in person. At this time I hesitate to put her through that stress, but maybe I'm wrong? She's eating well - chick starter, bits of blueberries, yogurt, tomatoes (she picked her...
Thank you for your help. My vet would not do a fecal but referred me to 2 vets in the area who might. They are both closed today. Found an avian vet nearby, but she is also closed on Saturdays. Victoria spent the day inside in an ex pen resting. She has been eating yogurt, oatmeal...
Please, we really need some direction on this. We are first time chicken owners and these girls have been raised from babies. Am I asking the wrong questions? Do you need further information? Thank you.
We had three chickens and lost one a week ago on a hot summer day. Out of the three, 2 of them lost weight, stopped laying, had runny stools. The stools look just like the photos for clostridium perfingens. They were wormed with wazine months ago when symptoms started; followed up a month...
Thank you for your reply cowcreekgeek. There are just three hens and they all have it, For what it's worth, the black spots seem to be better (they weren't that bad to begin with) and all were treated with the blu-kote. It was put on the BO the most (think purple mohawk). I would post a...
We noticed black spots on combs and waddles of our three hens and thought either fowl pox or picking on each other. We thought (thinking is always a bad idea) that by putting blu-kote on it would help with healing. After carefully dabbing on their sores we saw that our BO was being attacked by...
Is this the same thing? Hope you can see the white bullseye in the eggs. We have 3 chickens, 2 have just started laying and the GLW is making noises to start laying soon.
