It depends on how cold it gets in your area and what type of shelter they will have. If you get cold weather like me then i would wait until they're fully feathered to put them outside for the whole day, but i would adjust them slowly to the cold so you don't shock them. I hoped that helped :)
Hi everyone I was planning on ordering duck diapers for my duckling who is about 9 weeks old. Though I have raised ducks from ducklings before I've forgotten when they really stop growing and was wondering when I should measure for the final size. I'm pretty sure she is a Khaki Campbell/Mallard...
That's true. Thanks for the help . I'll think about it some more then. I'll probably end up just building another coop unless I think of something though when I get some more money I could use chainlink....
The one on the right looks like a Rouen while the one on the left looks more mallard-ish in the second picture. Hope that helps. I've also heard something about white on the edges of the tail feathers can tell the two apart.
Hello everyone I was planning on building new pens in a better location and I'm going to separate the drakes from the girls because they are way too aggressive. I was wondering how I could build predator proof pens that will not require them to go into a coop at night, but inside of dog-loos or...
That's great to hear. I had a duckling with a leg problem a couple weeks back that was full of vigor as well. I think that giving them a chance is better than just culling them as long as they aren't in pain. My duckling is now following me around the yard and doing much better. I hope that...
Thanks everyone :) TheRookie, he/she is most likely a Mallard Khaki Campbell cross and I can't wait to find out what he/she looks like as an adult (probably very closely resembling a mallard I would assume.) I'll post more pics when able.
You should start giving them layer when they are laying along with a separate dish of oyster shell so they can eat it if they want it. If they are too young to lay, but too old for chick starter then switch to grower/finisher. The price really depends on the brand. Blue seal is about $13-$14 per...
Well as some of you know a couple weeks ago I had trouble hatching 3 duck eggs. 2 had died and only one remained, but had a leg problem. Well today I am happy to say that during his/her first walk (due to the sudden lovely weather,) the surviving duckling is doing much better. She/he has grown...
The duckling is doing great. While changing the hobble I noticed that the leg is starting to correct itself. He/she is also much more stable and active and is starting to eat and explore.
Okay thanks. I just am paranoid especially with the condition this duckling is currently in. I read something on that website and I saw a picture of a chick that looks almost exactly how the duckling looks. Apparently hobbles can fix it which should be easy enough. I can't thank you guys enough...
