    Straw V Hay for Bedding

Hey (pun intended) everyone. I was wondering what peoples thoughts are about hay and straw? I am currently using straw as the begging in Duckingham Palace for our two Pekins. Are there advantages to either one? We use hay for the nesting boxes in the chicken coop as it seems to be softer...

    So many flies!!!

We have a large (20x30 foot) pen. Inside that is Duckingham Palace with its screen porch (about 4x6 feet). The pen is just bare ground with leaf litter (i dump raked leaves in the pen since the chickens love to scratch through it. Keeps them well entertained) and inside the ducks screen porch...

    So many flies!!!

What is the best way to control flies in the chicken pen. We have seven chickens and two ducks. We’ve never had a problem with the flies being bad before. This summer though, the flies are terrible. Is there a product we can use that will easily help control the flies?

    Duckingham Palace

So here is what we have built for our two Pekins, Lady Penelope Peep and Lady Regina Quackenbush. It came out pretty goood. The screened in “veranda” detaches for once they are big/old enough to mingle with the chickens. The whole thing is in our poultry pen which is about 25 feet on a side...

Another “when to move outside” question

Right now they are only about 20 days old. So currently they are mostly still chick fluff, but you can start to see the white through the fluff.

Another “when to move outside” question

Hello, our 2 Pekins will be 4 weeks old when we want to move them outside. It will be July 3rd and the day/night temps are suppose to be 80 to 90 in the day and 58 to 66 at night. Since they will be 4 weeks old we were hoping this would be ok. They have a secure duck house inside our poultry...

    Make Room for Ducklings

Hello all, HELP!! We have two ducklings whom we love very much. They are Pekin Ducks and are just now 2 weeks old. We started them in a plastic storage container for a brooder, just like we use for our chicks. We knew they would grow fast, but they are growing faster than we thought. They...

My Girls will not use the nesting box

So we did not open the coop today. No sign of using the nest boxes and also not egg today. Is that usual? They are all up on their roost now and I don't think anyone will lay overnight will they? They have kicked around the pine shavings on the floor a lot today. One corner they had...

Who else is waiting for that first egg?

This is the coop with the nesting box. You can see the roost up and to the right. There is a ceramic egg in each of the two boxes.
