Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I understand the issue is real but it will be leveraged by the industry to place restrictions on the individual. They will also re-coop their losses with price hikes and they will never return to previous levels. big Argri-business will prevale.

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

I won't debate this with you I have said my piece. I will say that any registeration for pedigree purpose is only as good as the people involved. I have been extensively involved in dog registration and cattle registeration and I know the lying and cheating and just plain lack of documentation...

Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I bet you dollars to donuts the industry will use this opportunity to KEEP the HIGH prices once this is all history. The prices will never go back to pre-crisis. This type of action started with coffee about 30 years ago then sugar was next. Big business has a proven model to make the large...

    Arkansas folks speak up.........

I don't think the registration is a good thing at all it is just another way for big government to keep track of what you are doing. It creats more government jobs and drains your monies. $5 per chicken are you nuts that is absolutely outrageous!!! Most breeders hatch a thousand or more...

Quote: Don't let that wooden side fool you into feeling secure. I have had dogs chew through 2x4 and ply wood more often than getting through the welded wire. I watched a pitbull chew through a 2x4 in seconds .... obviously not his first time doing so.

Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Ok I am sure I will be chastized for this but I can't continue to read about all this scrubing of water dishes. Someone please help me understand where the wild birds drink from. Are there any mud puddles in your yard, don't your chickens drink from them? For the most part we have those...

Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

I've never had to eat a rooster for being aggressive yet. Only had to school a few of them and one lesson did the trick. Eating a rooster that flogs you is like committing suicide...it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. The above statement may be largely true but culling IS...

Heritage Large Fowl - Phase II

Quote: Bee, I am glad the post made it here, it was an interesting read. I remember the post you refer to about the lady that picked up her rooster and carried him around to control his behavior. Maybe you should be known as the Rooster Wisperer. Jesting of course but this observation is very...

    Braggs Mountain Buffs

I haven't weighed in for a while. You can read back through and see what I had to say. Bottom line, these birds did not pan out and we have given up on the breed.

Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

Quote: no cracking the egg is fine .... then you put the egg into a frying pan and whala no waisted egg. It sounds to me as if you are waiting / looking for the time the previous roosters sperm has been cleared and NOT looking to hatch more from the previous rooster.

Bob Blosl's Heritage Large Fowl Thread

Quote: We had a similar set up and the chicks all went back to the coop they were raised in. We had to individually place the chicks into the new coop for several nights before they started using it.

Quote: Don't know what happened to the quote? We have pulled one Texas Rat Snake from a nest box. It had swallowed an egg and it was about 3" behind it's head. I was surprised the egg had not broken.... quite a lump in that snakes throat. We have also pulled out two cotton mouth snakes and...
