    SQ Egg Swap

Quote: ing My girls are laying crazy, but, well, I'm a hatchaholic . . . the twelve step program says Steps 1 - 5 -- Chickens hatch January thru May and Steps 6-9 -- switch to quail June thru Sept! The other three months are negotiable on type! I am trying to open bator space for the bob...

Second incubator is it a good idea ?

If all your eggs are set the same day, a second 'bator won't be much added benefit other than insurance if the other goes down. (or, in my case, not insurance because I would have it full of more eggs!) A second bator is ideal if you want to stagger your hatch. I run my GQF as an incubator...

    Humidity help please???

Quote: I often hatch in my basement in Illinois. Humidity runs 65% or more and seemed to cause some issues. I now run a dehumidifier - for chicks and basement health. Several 100% hatches since the change. I'd say it worked. Any chance you can dehumidify your hatch room? Never lived in...

**Anyone make dividers for hatching different breeds in an incubator?

Not sure I'd say I have 'solved' anything, but I have used cardboard strips to split a bator shelf in half. An 'S' shaped fold seems to work well. I also cut away parts of the center bottom and top to allow better circulation. Basically, I now start with an 'I' shaped piece of cardboard...

    It Did Not Go Well

Quote: Dare right the next one is easier for you. No quarter . . . unless it is leg quarters in the fry pan! I feel for you. We had an overly aggressive roo with my first ever flock, many years ago but we won't talk about just how many . . . My DH got tired of him flying at his head...

Spotty chickens - boys or girls??

1 looks like a silkie cross and 2 definitely has silver spangled hamburg (cross or poorly marked) - the back feathers look too dark. Both are very cute and appear to be pullets. Good luck!

Button Quail....Lots of them.... BF hates... Plz help.

Another wish for you being closer . . . I lost my last button a few weeks ago - old age. My son was a favorite with our little button male. He'd crow/laugh every time my son walked by. Of course, my DH hated the little cuties . . . the feeling was mutual. But, I think I'd be tempted again...

    Chick days TSC

The TSC in Terre Haute, Indiana didn't get chicks until April last year. Several locals complained that it was too late for 4H and pointed out the lost market opportunity. I asked in December about delivery and the manager said that the date had been moved up but wouldn't comment on how far...
