    Wrath's Marans

We clearly haven’t been filling the thread with enough nonsense then!

    Wrath's Marans

Are they all male or do they have bigger combs than I realised?

    Wrath's Marans

Even my silkies are refusing to go broody at this idea.

    Wrath's Marans

@2ndTink did you sort him out?

    Wrath's Marans

I’ve been waiting… ah, I’m six hours ahead. He’s only doing what we all would if we had the chance.

Marans genetic and how to breed them to SOP

This is heavy bloom, the outer layer of the egg. The correct amount makes the Marans egg nice and glossy, but too much makes them purple and cloudy. Will likely reduce as she gets used to the laying cycle.

    Deformed chicken 5th toe

Apologies if I missed anything in the original post, do you have closer pictures?

    Deformed chicken 5th toe

Most silkie toes grow this way, it’s nothing to worry about.

@realenthusiast is that a BSO Brahma cockerel in your profile picture?

I’ll score him tomorrow, but this body type is much better, it’s a shame his tail is higher. I think waiting a bit for his tail to fill out will help, because it seems a bit funky at the moment.

You’re welcome. Feel free to run any other cockerels past me so we can find you the best one.

This is my judging of him, using the Marans Club of Great Britain’s points system, but the French Standard. Type, carriage and table merits: 30/40 Good width and low tail. Nice, heavy frame, but loses points for type. Too triangular in type, even if his body is big, it’s not long enough...

Do you have any more pictures of him? If I could get a few more from different angles and stances I will happily give you a breakdown of points. I’m really liking his head so far, lovely comb serrations.

    Wrath's Marans

The height of this ignorance I find when I see ‘English standard BCMs’ for sale. There’s no such thing as English BCMs! They’ve identified that the English standard has clean legs, yet failed to realise that there is not even any talk of the black copper being recognised under this standard. We...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

He’s got an open tail and slightly untidy comb, but looks decent otherwise. 7 is strong. I don’t know prices in the US but here in England I’d try and get £20 for him. The right buyer could pay £30, or aim lower to guarantee interest. Edit: that’s $27 and $40 USD

Could well just be the time of year. Fertility picks up again in the spring.

Looks very different to her sister or dam, almost look like different lines, but by no means is that an issue. Still a bit smaller, more compact, but neat tail and lovely eye colour now, even though it’s a bit on the brown side. Copper a bit paler but still nice, and the over colouring from her...

LokiNapoleon Napoléon (with the é) My marans cockerels throughout the years, all at roughly 20 weeks (I realised 20 is closer to my young ones’ age). I think this shows why I’m so please with Napoléon, see how much bigger his body is for the same age. His tail is so far the best too, I’m hoping...

I can’t wait to see her egg. I’m hoping she starts laying this year rather than waiting till spring. She’s 18 weeks roughly.
