Wow that's a true button quail? I knew the 'button quail' were closley related to cranes and takahes but I had no idea that's what the real ones looked like. I have to do a little more studying then!
Well for my silver pheasants, they are kept in a twenty-eight foot long by twenty foot wide aviary. They are actually housed in the largest aviary I have. I would recommend 400 square feet for a trio if you want them to breed and act naturally. Also be sure to heavily plant their area, all...
I keep the button quail, I wouldn't say they are rare but they aren't that easy to find. For the most part they are just like any other quail just, really really really small! I'm talking about the size of a bantam chick! They can be a bit flighty but to me there is no difference in their care...
I live in the city also, so I know what kind of situation you have, but if I were you I wouldn't put the silvers in something that small. They like to run and jump around so they may trample your quail. To me silvers have the dispostion of chickens which means they can be aggresive to small...
Pheasants are wild birds, from my experence with them they usually don't wish to be caged. For the most part though they usually come back to their mate at dusk. I personally never lost a bird and have been lucky so far but i'm sure I'll be on here one day saying the same thing that you're...
Good for you I'm glad you're getting out of chickens, I did a while ago, best decision i've ever made.
To be honest with you I would get the blue scaled quail and the partridge, as well as any kind of small gamebird as they always seem to be in demand.
I just want all of you to know that I'm in no way harrassing anybody on here. I wouldn't like that behavior being forwarded to me and for surley I wouldn't do it to anybody else.
That's definatley a good price. The way to tell the chicks from male and feamle is the eye color. The males iris will ethier be blueish gray or light olive, the feamle's iris is chocolate.
I do have to say, I personally don't like hybrids, but if they are managed properly and are not bred with other birds I don't see the harm. I would just hate to see a hybrid mixed with purebloods and then are sold to the general public. It's like golden and lady amhersts pheasant situation...
The male is on the left the female is on the right she will have a chesnut colored eyepatch across her face while the males have a white eyepatch. Don't worry there are no stupid questions
Very nice birds SR, especially the silver/ringneck cross! I'm not spitting at you but I really think it's terrible to raise hybrids, of course I know you won't sell them to the public.
