Found a disarticulated bantam hen this morning. Several possible predators: St. Bernard(not ours) hiding near pen, a Buzzard near carcass, and our own cats. I found lots of feathers and what seems all the bones of skeleton with all flesh gone. Don't know what kind of predator will not eat the...
I have a duck (black and white) that's laying eggs in the nest of a brooding hen. Problem is we have found broken and missing chicken eggs. This is frustrating since we were hoping to add chicks to the flock. What is the problem? What do I need to do.
It's hot! 100° or hotter some days. Keeping them watered and wetting ground around them a couple of times a day. And this is in the shade. What else can I do to make sure they won't keel over?
My hatchery dark Cornish hens are laying eggs. I have a rooster that has mated with them. I've put one egg under another hen that's brooding right now. I hope it was fertile. Got about 18 more days to go.
What hatchery does TSC source from? Out of a dozen chicks 8 turned out to be cockrels. You pay extra for pullets! Probably go for chicks online instead. Idk. My flock is 22 wks old so I know what I got obviously. Wish I had this info when I first bought all my chicks. LIVE AND LEARN!
I have A RIR that had a smaller comb and waddles than the other RIR. "She " also was taken into the dominant rooster's harem. We noticed also that she was as big as the other RIR roosters and was starting to grow long tail feathers but was still a part of hens. Never saw any rooster try to mount...
I'll take her out for a while and watch the politics between young and older Bantams. If she wanders of without returning and all the kiddos are okay I'll make it permanent. If not nature wins
