Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

They are the red vertical screw in ones from QC. I used PVC pipe and a 5 gallon bucket. You tube rocks! :-) I can't say I've seen the horizontal ones before. I rebuilt it today so it's in the workshop curing. I realized I used caulk instead of silicone, (duh!) but I don't think that was the...

    Sick Chick

Just kinda throwing this out there, but every baby I've ever raised have laid on their sides or near rolled over to their backs until they were too big to do that. I have two orps that are 8 weeks old ad still lay on their sides. Silly things, they are. I'd stop the sugar water. That's really...

Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

Thank you. I mixed up a gallon of water yesterday and immediately started the 5 day treatment. I used +/- 1/4 oz. I'm cleaning out the hen house today and putting in fresh shavings. In an effort to reduce potential contamination, I also built a new chicken watering system with the nipples, but...

Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

Well, I can honestly say I am baffled. She seems perfectly fine this morning. Both eyes open, strong and alert, crop seems normal. She still has a bit of diarrhea, but no more blood. She's talking and perching. She won't stay in the box for love nor money, so I bought her back outside. The fella...

Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

She woke up a few minutes ago and poo'd again but it looks just like the previous. :-( I'm hoping the co-op has the corid but I will bring the list of the others in case they don't. @ iwiw60, I believe once they start laying it's pretty hard for them to get Cocci, but someone may have a more...

Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

Thank you both very much. I hate that this happened. Yes, they are all in the same house together, although I brought this one inside the people house tonight. This is a new flock but not with other birds. I wish I knew how she/they caught it. I've never experienced this before. I love them all...

Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

Thank you very much. I hope the co-op has the meds. I assume I should treat the entire flock as a precaution?

Thought she had an impacted crop - bloody poo - Cocci?

Hi everyone. It's been a long time since I posted on this site. I have a 7-8 week old partridge rock and she's not feeling well at all. I went out this afternoon to refresh water and all my babies came running except for her. I found her under a tree, standing/wobbling, lethargic, one eye...

One hen always flying solo from the rest?

I've had several Ms. Independents, and unfortunately they ultimately end up caught by a predator. I lost one this morning. :-( I've tried to keep my "strays" together, but it doesn't work. Just make sure she doesn't wander too far away and make sure you have her locked up at night. Good luck!

    Decrowing Roosters.

Oh I would have to say that is cruel. You don't need a rooster to raise chickens. Roosters are used for meat anyway. EVERYONE knows Roos make noise. Some are louder than others. Most "urban farmers" don't have more than a few chickens and a small fenced area for the birds and there is no need...

    Strange Egg Shell: Warts? Hotspot?

It's a very hard shell, and sounds almost like glass if ya click it, but she could be stressed. I have two "hens" that became Roosters and they are hormonal Juvenile Delinquents! One actually killed one of my cochins this morning! Horny (insert bad word here) Trying to get courage to butcher. I...

    Strange Egg Shell: Warts? Hotspot?

Hey everyone. First, thanks for reading this. Next, I have a very strange egg today. I believe it is from one my new RIR layers. It's about time for them to be laying, but since I didn't watch to see who layed, I couldn't tell ya. Either way. Please take a look and offer some guidance. The dark...

Female Mallard spinning in circles ??

No. Ziggy is the Queen of the Chickens, (even though she's a duck). She is always at the wing of my Giant Roo. It's the weirdest thing. She's very territorial and jealous and even the cats are afraid of her! LOL. How do I check for an ear infection? I'll try to get a picture of her because she...

Female Mallard spinning in circles ??

Hi everyone! I have a female mallard. Just one. She's about a year and a half old. She's runs with the chickens and doesn't seem to know she's a duck! Anyway....Over the last week or so she's been acting strange. Now, I've seen her do this before, but not like now. She spins in circles several...

MIDDLE TENNESSEE: 1 Barred Rock 10 weeks old, 1 White Roo approximately 6 mos. Old

Hmmm....Mottled I think is what they are called. They are 8 weeks old, and as sweet as can be. I've been raising them since 1 day old. I have the certificate from McMurray. They are just now starting to get their adult coloring, but they are brown, black and white. Feel free to call me.I've...
