Tagging me in all the posts you want me to see just makes me disable my email from here.. 3 notifications in the past hour. If I want to comment/be a part of it I would.
I will make something work, I like the black latches that you can padlock.. They make the freeze free ones and I can keep the key right under the roof line of the coop. The coop is short so it won't be hard at all.
I just came here for this reason. I am changing out our coop latches and was dreading winter in Vermont with door latches frozen shut. Trying to find the best ones for the job that are the least likely to freeze on me without being to big and look stupid. I have a super cute coop and I would...
I just started researching this.. So many choices and most of them cost a buttload! I have been looking into ways of constructing my own. I can't see how a time operated pulley is $100+
We will just go in and knock it off as needed.. It wont get much snow load as its right under a huge pine tree though. I think last year when we got 2ft of snow dumped on us that area only got 8-10". It will be easily maintained. When we move we plan on adding steel roofing to the run so we...
The only thing we want to do later is add more run space but we are planning on moving within a year so it might have to wait due to town regulations.. We are moving out of town to more land and then we will set up a free range area with 4ft poultry netting for day time use while we are home.
Its done.. been done for a about a month. The front wall has an entire section of screen on it about 1.5ft tall all the way across ( you can see those cut out in the pictures above) The roof line also has venting all around it with about a 1.5" gap of air flow ( screened) and the run doors are...
So I sent a video of both birds "talking" to a friend who raises ducks and they think I have a male and a female.. ugh I really really hope she is correct. I just need/want 1 egg layer. These fatty's can't be free loaders..
No, We were hoping for a few egg layers. I was ok if we had 1 male but was really crossing my fingers for at least 1 female. We got 8 chickens and wanted a few ducks to keep things interesting. Not raising meat birds until next year once we relocate..
Husband and mother in law said they have heard a few loud quacks.. I have heard nothing and I am home a LOT.. I do 99% of all the care and am around them a bunch. ugh I am 95% sure they are both boys now. I am 100% sure the pekin is a boy. Tail feathers are curling like crazy and he is raspy but...
We just went over this with our run.. we didn't want the ducks making it a mud puddle for the chickens so we built up the entire thing with 6" of drive way gravel and then we are topping it with dirt/grass. The driveway gravel is amazing at allowing water drainage and was a cheap fix for us. We...
Any thoughts on male/female? We are at about 10lbs now for the yellow beak and 13lbs for th white beak.. lol No real vocals out of them yet besides just soft jabbering.
Ok... so I am new to ducks. I got these guys back on March 28th as tiny 3 day old babies. They are growing insanely fast! I am shocked at just how large they are. I have the coop ready to go this weekend but the weather doesn't want to warm up at all around here so I still have them in the...
Hubby is at work today so nothing to do on the coop but I did take the girls out into the small run for a swim in the pool for a bit. Get them out into the sun while I can. It rained a bit earlier and is suppose to rain again later. I let them fully dry off prior to going back inside their brooder.
