A few days ago I almost had a tragedy.

I just put my house up for sale. Time to down size. I will be moving my chickens and there coop/pen. Any advice in how to make this less stressful for both me and chickens.
I use fresh pine shavings in my coop but deep litter in the pen. Throw out soiled shavings into pen add fresh grass and leaves. Having a thick layer of pine shavings isn’t deep litter.
In coop I use a fire place shovel. Works great and off season there cheap. I use the deep litter method. I don’t clean my pen. Only coop I clean. Being deep litter you only add. I have been doing this for over a year it’s about 8 inches deep now. No smell what so ever. The chickens rotate it...
If your using the deep litter method your chickens turn it. All I do is keep raking it even. No smell and cover the top to keep it from getting soaked.
I have had nothing but positive responses from my neibors. Though I do give out eggs freely when I have to many. My town is fully awear of me having chickens and how many I have. There policy is do nothing till they get a complaint. Then it’s by the rules.
We do have a 5 foot fence between our yards. My girls can fly over it. Also I have learned the answer to the age old question why did the chicken cross the road? Because there were tasty bugs over there.
