I was deworming my chickens orally when I noticed these spots underneath one of my bantam roosters beaks. I assume they are/were abscesses that burst open. Any ideas on what they were if not abscesses, what caused them, and how to prevent them? Also since they have burst, is there anything else...
Hello!
I definitely agree that you should trim those, or they’ll keep growing and cause damage to his legs.
As for the process of trimming them, I use a dremel with a saw blade, which will quickly cut through the spur. Some people also completely remove the entire spur, which in most cases keeps...
Of course!
I have never raised any BBRs, but the pullets will generally be a lighter color, while the cockerels with be darker in feathering. Birchens are very easy since they are all black as chicks. Only the cockerels with get the silver/white color in their back/wings, while the pullets will...
Lovely birds everyone! I’ll have to get some pictures of my modern games sometime this week. My first show of the year is this Friday, they’ve had their baths and are in great condition!
Duck wing seems most likely, as long as it is silver/grey, not a reddish tan color, I can’t tell for sure from the picture. They are fairly easy to sex, The cockerels with start developing color in their wings/back while the pullets with primarily only develop the lighter color in their hackles...
Edit:
oh my, I also fell into the time warp, ha!
As said above, Modern game bantam seems very likely.
The variety closely matches a splash, or some variety of sport (commonly a Lemon Blue Sport, or a Silver Blue Sport)
I saw a note about the sport variety above, and If anyone is curious, I...
I suggest searching on Facebook. The ABA/APA pages have lots of Groups (breed specific), and breeders connected to them that can help you find some birds. I know a lot of breeders advertise in the ABA/APA yearbooks, and I’m pretty sure those are highlighted on their Facebook page/topics as well...

Thank you for the responses. I have attached photos from tonight. I woke up this morning and she will no longer walk. Her appetite has returned, and I have been moving her near the food and water throughout the day, which she has been eating and drinking just fine. Included a picture of...
I have a modern game hen who’s feet where completely frozen solid about 4-ish days ago. She had bubbles/blisters of liquid filling on her feet/between her toes. They ended up popping on their own while I was thawing them (simply holding them in my hand so they wouldn’t heat up too fast and cause...
Of course!
If you have red faced birds you wish to keep or breed, I suggest finding a dark skinned (not just mulberry faced) bird to breed into your flock. This will produce birds with either dark skin, or mulberry faces, while keeping the good color/type genetics from the red faced bird. That...
According the Standard of Perfection, the faces are suppose to be mulberry over red. Some judges are more picky over this than others are. Brown reds have the same description, and I’ve seen a red face bird place high at one show, then be completely overlooked at another because of its face...
The outlook for tomorrow’s hatch is not looking very good.
I’ve been checking temp and humidity every two hours today, and just noticed a huge temp spike, up to 110, maybe higher, I didn’t note the exact temp before trying to fix it.
Come to find out the lid some how shorted out, and was running...
