Yes I have been hatching ducklings years and I am familiar with what’s normal for ducklings vs chicks. This is not the same although maybe I am not describing it very well.
Thanks for the responses.
Please try to avoid hate. This is hard enough already 😢
We had a duck to broody and hatched 2 duckling then killed them. Thinking she was not a good mama we took the remainder and put them in our incubator. They are hatching with what I can best describe as seeming to have a brain injury or...
Just moving to a new home will delay their laying, by a couple week to a month in my experience.
Before she lays you may notice her acting odd. They sometimes do little practice squat before they start laying. It's adorable.
I don't think too much scratch would delay laying, but I am not...
We've had good luck with splay leg taping it to the other leg. But I've never had a chick happily accept the leg taping, they've always cried and fall over all the time. I don't know what else to say except to do the best you can!
I've never used nipple waterers, but any change and my hens stop or slow down their laying. If they are are drinking and otherwise seem healthy I wouldn't worry too much.
We had ducklings hatch yesterday. Indian Runners. I went to get them food this morning and the feed store accidentally gave us Duck and Goose grower, rather than starter. Today the feed stores don't open until tomorrow. I am wondering if grower would be ok until tomorrow or if there are any...
Lost all but one duck to a predator attack. The surviving duck has a bite on the back of her head (one penetrating wound) the rest appeared to have head wounds as well. This happened at night and there were no tracks in the snow around the duck house which was locked. Leading me to think the...
I should have taken pictures before I did the Bumblefoot removal, it’s all wrapped up now. Sorry!
Definitely wondering if there’s also an injury because the one toe doesn’t seem to move which I thought was potentially odd for “just Bumblefoot”.
Doesn’t look like Bumblefoot to me. I don’t think an Epson salt soak would hurt anything so if you’re concerned you could try it and keep an eye on their feet for a while to see if they get better, worse or stay the same.
I have a chicken with a very swollen foot and she has Bumblefoot. I have done Bumblefoot surgery in the past (not on this particular bird) and am comfortable doing it for this bird. My question is specific to this chicken; as I said her foot is very swollen with a definite limp, but the black...
Good to know. Thank you for responding. They seem to be very happy and healthy; lots of energy and good appetites contented peeping, definitely not a frantic/uncomfortable sound. I wasn't really sure what cold duckling would do. Great info!
Hey folks, I had ducklings hatch yesterday. Last night when I went to bed (around 11 pm) their heat lamp was on. Unfortuntely when I checked on them this morning (6:30 am) the heat lamp was off. It no longer felt warm, so I figure it was off for a while. The ducklings were all sleeping...
I agree that training a duck to lay in a desired spot is unlikely. I’ve only had one duck lay in the chicken boxes out of about 3 dozen attempts.
This is definitely a challenging situation as egg eating is a notoriously difficult habit to break a chicken from. We use golf balls as well as...
