I just wanted to share that I purchased two Ameraucanas/EE from ideal and now they are nearly full grown and laying and one has never developed a tail. Is that sometimes a common thing?
They eat layer pellets and free range 3-4 days a week with access to grassy areas. They are approximately 8-10 months old.
Eprinex from what I can find is ivomec? I have this on hand how do you suggest I treat them? Dosage, and how to administer? Thank you!
I had a hen get sort of depressed and listless and noticed she was trying to eat pellets but not actually eating any. She lost weight and eventually died. I opened her up to check for a ruptured egg and found nothing inside. I have since wormed my flock (wazine) but now appear to have another...
I have eaten a few of my hens and there was just about no breast meat on them. I was really surprised how small they were when skinned.
My rooster is under a year old and larger then the hens but still I don't see much food potential. He is an awesome bird but he attacks women.
No blood. The yolk was very brownish as opposed to bright yellow, must have died in the shell. I see most is 50-55 days so yes I am way over the expected date.
Thank you both for the information.
My 2 emu eggs were 71 days old today. I hoped maybe they were behind due to some cold snaps that made the incubators temp drop to about 90 for a few nights.
I have one small egg and one large. I decided today to crack the smaller lighter one open assuming they were both duds. To my surprise...
I have a small group of 6 from ideal. They are now a little over a week old and there legs are swelling. Two are really large probably roosters. I am keeping these for some breeding crosses, but these did not grow like my CX from ideal and I had no leg issues luckily.
They probably sat to long before you skinned/cleaned them. That is why they were stiff. Try next time to cut the neck and let them bleed out, and bleed they will and as soon as it seems to stop go ahead and either pluck or skin them. Some let them rest a few days in the fridge.
I just ate a...
Ok well I will try to get my 30 lb dog through an 8" hole. Considering a full grown bobcat can't fit into a standard raccoon trap I beg to disagree. The point here is not so much what did it but that the coop wasn't secure and that is why the chickens are dead. Raccoons always go for the head to...
See if your feed store or Tractor Supply has some live traps. They aren't to expensive and last forever. Trap the nuisance and look at this as a learning experience, and make the coop more secure.
Sorry for the loses especially on Christmas
An 8inch opening? Was it a newborn bobcat? Seriously though bobcats are quite large about the size of a dog and typically leave no trace of their kill. They will grab the chicken in their mouth and run off usually not leaving even a feather.
I would say raccoon they will usually kill any bird...
2 of them are really large. So maybe the other 4 are hens and just taking a little longer to grow out. The Barred rocks in the mix look tiny compared to the NH and RB.
Or maybe they messed up the order no clue since none were marked. These are from Ideal as well.
