Thanks for your advice. I was thinking it might be related to protein, but wasn't sure. We've never had this problem.
I like your feather toy idea. I hope to try making one this morning.
Turkeys are very curious. I try not to wear polka dots or small prints as they try to peck at them...
Not sure where your text went on the butchering business, but I wanted to add that the family that butchers are nice folks to work with. We have always felt that we did indeed get our own birds back.
I also take a spray disinfectant for the car floors. Wipes and hand wash, too. There is a...
Good morning
Another rainy day here. The temps are fall-like. I'm not sure what we'll harvest out of our garden.
We are thankful that we got our hay baled Monday. Our ducks are loving our new ponds.
I'm sorry for those that have had much more rain. Sounds like the Indy area folks are...
We use a place in the Goshen area. It is most likely the same one Leahs Mom mentioned above. It's very clean and we were pleased with the butchering. We have not used it since it has changed hands. It was recently taken over by a nearby family that has butchered our cows, pigs and lambs. I...
Hope everyone is well after the storms that hit across IN last night. We were fortunate that it skirted south of us. We did have just a bit of rain, but the thunder and lightening, along with blustery winds made for an unsettled night. As usual, the threat of bad weather gets us scampering...
Sorry to hear this.
I don't have any advice, but just wanted to let you know we are experiencing a similar situation here with our turkeys. "Broody Drama" is a perfect description. I was just out in our coop checking on them and came out totally frustrated.
I'm sure someone here will...
Thanks for the tips. Yes, our turkeys have quite the characters. They are always entertaining and up to quirky antics of some kind. I will have to watch for their "yawn" as I don't remember noticing that before. They are very noisy, voicing their opinions whenever they get the chance.
I'm sorry to hear of all the sickness with chicks and even deaths.
flyladyrocks, how is your dog doing today?
We are waiting for another hatch in the incubator. Chicks in one and turkey in the other. I have read so much on hatching and starting turkey poults - I want to get it right this...
Baked an Angel Food cake. I'm not sure why I don't bake them more often.
All the talk about chocolate, I should have tried a chocolate angel food cake.
I'm glad to see there are many of you that feed your chicks/chickens cooked eggs. I've not found many other that do that. Our chickens are jumping around and making lots of noise when they see us coming with the pot of eggs.
We think the finely mashed eggs (along with the higher protein...
Thanks. They are currently offering a special - not sure if that's what you purchased. I am wanting to get the assorted poults special with the thought that I could sell a few as poults and raise the others. But, then we would need to extend our turkey pen. Just dreaming............
Wow, I'm still new around here, but as oldrooster mentioned, "I think we are supposed to be behind and skip posts in this thread. I'll never be able to keep up......." How true!
Anyway...........
BrownCow - great trapping success.
Acornewell - very interesting. Thanks for sharing that...
Poor chicks. This is so frustrating. Have you set any traps outside of the coop?
Not only the roosters, but the drakes are at it, too. Must be the season.
Cookies sound like a great way to use those eggs.
Wish I could help you out, but we are not having much luck with hatching turkey eggs...
