    just added 6, 9 week old chicks to my coop and 5 adults and man what a rutgis going on, aafter 4 days they have clamed down a bit but the older hens are still peckin at the little ones. I think you just have to let them have at it and they will sort it out over time. no chicks have been hurt but...

    whole thing is under 4 lbs and it's 3" thick and waterproof also slides apart with the shiplap design. i get these things for free also... anyone need one.....

    I have made a new brooder from a Styrofoam container, it is huge 42x35x39 i lined it with cardboard and i must say this is most likely the best brooder i have ever made and it was free!! I have 5 grown and will get 6 more chicks to add to them. pic s to follow.

    cover floor OSB with a linoleum and some adhesive to make it water resistant.

    New coop with a plywood floor...what is best to cover it with....need help...dh not happy... ;)

    place a piece of linoleum and seal it down with contractors glue and never look back you can even hose out the coop whenever you want. look at a bargan center for some cheap stuff. nothung sticks to linoleum and its waterproof.

    Bury chicken wire and hardware cloth walls?

    you don't need to bury it just bend the wire into an L shape and lay on ground. Leave about 1-2 ft flat on the ground and stake into ground with landscape stakes and cover with dirt. i live in the country and have had no issues with critters getting in.

    Today's temperature = # of eggs.

    -17f and 5 eggs from 6 hens (reds) lighted from 5pm till 8pm. Rooster not fairing well in the cold has frostbite on his comb and waddle.

    What can i do about frostbite on my roosters comb its very black at the tips and he is leaving blood on the feeder as he eats. It is -2 right now and no heat in the coop . All the others seem fine be he has a large comb. what can i do to adress the frostbite?
