Speckled Sussex and Wyandotte. They eat purina chicken pellets and grass bugs. Their coop is above ground/ramp w wood shavings with attached run with dirt. I’ve kept chickens for about 12 yrs. This has never happened.
I am in southeast Michigan. I found online there is avian flu in my county. I notice sparrows do get in the coop and eat their feed. The meds mentioned above available at tractor supply? Thanks so much for your response.
I thought that the first chicken was egg bound. We tried to help her with the warm bath and calcium. We noticed two more chickens were lethargic after the first one died. Now they died. What could it be? What should we do? I have 4 left. They are three yrs old.
We have eight chickens that are three years old one recently died to what we thought was egg bound this happened to a chicken years ago and it seemed like the same thing we did try to save her with the warm bath and tums. Anyway another chicken is acting the same way now I’m thinking it may be...
have 2 Black Australorps pullets in my new flock. They are about 22 weeks old. They haven't started laying yet. I'm starting to think one is a rooster.
My reason is mostly by the tail appearance, but also does put itself between me and other chickens (protection??) and also seems to stand...
Yes, you'll need to attach hardware wire to the bottom to protect from predators. You ask for suggestions??
I would use the side with the window to attach a run. You can remove the window and make a ramp for the chickens to exit to go into the run and return into the coop at night. Having an...
I purchased 5 pullets and one ended up being a rooster. I'm considering keeping him. My chickens free range sometimes but not so much...maybe a couple hours 2-3 times per week.
My coop is 4 w x 4 lg x 4' high
attached run is 4 x 10' lg.
Ratio 1 rooster to 4 hens??? In this somewhat...
I forgot to mention - I accidently got two roosters before and they crowed very early on. I have never heard this roo crow. I actually hear an egg song coming from him which is why I did not even think that she was a he.
Goodnight!
They are feathered...just can't see them too well. Plus, feathers coming out everywhere! Is this an age thing?
Until I snapped that pic...I have never seen the tail feather curved like that. That is a giveaway huh?
I think I will see how things go for a while.
Thanks all!
So May 1 I bought 5 pullets. They are approx 15 weeks now.
I'm thinking this Light Brahma is a rooster. She has been very bossy. She is the largest chicken...even larger than the Jersey Giant. Last week I noticed her grabbing the back of the neck of the other hens. Today my husband...
So I bought 5 pullets on May 1st. I seems one that is the light Brahma is a Roo. I've never had a Rooster and have had one flock before these.
My question...if I keep him? Is it ok to mix breeds? Is this ok to do? Is it frowned upon?
My others are...
California Grey Leghorn
Barred Rock
Isa...
Hello,
These are my 12 week/3 mos. old EE's. They look almost identical except one's tail stands up and sometimes fans open like a turkey. I have never seen the other one do either of these two things.
Is the one in question a rooster?
Thanks for any input.
I really tried to take a...
Well, I didn't want to go into too much detail. I actually got 5 of them. And about 1 month ago I noticed one of them aggressive, crowing and then the tail sprung up. It was black and white and WAS Roo. I took it to the lady who I order these with and she took him.
I think you all are...
So this chicken is one of 4 that I purchased on March 1...so approx 11 weeks ago. They were brand new chicks. I purchased them as Easter Eggers. The others are the basic brown/black EE pullets. I am unsure if this is an EE. It looks like one of the others body shape, head, tiny comb etc...
