This is a lot cheaper than I thought, I will definitley show this to the boss =) Thanks so much for helping, and I will remember to tell you what happens!
Thanks so much for the help, I'll look into the swab, and blood tests! Hopefully it's free. I was thinking of culling, but if there is no way for me to know for sure unless a test, I'll do the test!
I'll try to get a necropsy, are you positive that it's viral? If you are, would it be a good choice to cull, and start over? I would hate to, but if it means that my new birds would be healthy....
Ok, In 4 months I've only gotten two odd eggs, they have swollen heads, and gasp when they eat dry feed. No sneezing, coughing or runny nose, only one is swollen badly in the sinuses. The rest is just a slight swelling around the eyes. I won't be able to go get a necropsy for some time, but is...
That's awesome! I love silkies, I don't think there's anything bad about them! I'm also getting some more chicks in the spring, but ost likely, they'll be from my own flock Hopefully, though, I will be able to get at least three chicks of a breed I don't have! I love my flock to be a variety =)
So I can only treat symptoms, not actually treat them? How much are most necropsies? and is there any meds that will treat symptoms until I am able to get a necropsy? thanks for helping!
No sickening smell,at all. Thats the problem though, all the birds are eating and drinking fine, their faces just look weird, that's why I would hate to kill them. Is there any med thhat is known to treat either of the diseases you mentioned? thanks for helping!
They're usually bad at ramps too.... lol lol, maybe put some extra bedding where she sleeps? I live in GA as well, so I understand!
Yeah, chickens are something that you never stop learning about!
I think my chickens have coryza. They have swollen faces, are gasping for air, and aren't laying well. My problem is that I CAN'T CURE IT!!! I have tried sulmet, durymicen, and tylan50, with nothing working!!! It is slowly getting worse ( they've had it for months now) I don't know what to do...
Well it could be a lot of things.
1: any chicken between the age of 2-4 is not going to lay as well as pullets
2: this is molting season, and a bird that is molting will rarely lay.
3: darker sooner. A hen needs a minimum of 14 hours of light to lay, if she doesn't get that, then she won't lay...
Silkies can't fly, at all, period. It is perfectly normal for her to sleep on the ground. If you get lots of silkies, when they sleep, it just looks like a pile of feather down on the coop floor!
I would definitely get more silkies, the more hens you get, the harder it will be for her not to...
