    Bottle feeding baby goats

What do you mean by "whole milk"? If you are bottle feeding you need to be giving them goat's milk or Kid Milk Replacer. As for the amounts I would do: Age Amount Frequency days 3-7 old 8 oz every 6 hrs 2-4 wks...

Muscovy eye is closed. Looks like it might be gone.

Just thought I'd like to close the thread. I know it has been very long, but I'm trying to just clean a few things up on our account. Her eye eventually healed after about a week or so, and the eye showed up again. There's a little mark above the pupil, so I think she may have scratched it...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

Well, here's a long over due update. We were doing a drench of an antibiotic, that they gave me from work, for about five days. On the night of the fifth day she didn't look good at all. Wasn't standing, eating or drinking. The next morning she was dead. So this one will just remain a...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

We typically use Ivomec, a brand for ivermectin for a dewormer for our goats. But these sights says it can do a bit more. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivermectin http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000418/ So I'll look into using that and Baytril. Jeez, always something going on...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

At the zoo, we had quite a few animals treated for WNV. Mostly birds, chickens, owls, ducks, and geese. Not an outbreak by any means, but they got it. I found a video of very similar symptoms. This isn't my duck, but is acting almost exactly. Maybe a bit more energetic. They gave it...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

I'm starting to dismiss the poison idea. I feel she would have been dead by now, if it was. I work at a zoo, and was talking to several people. And one had mentioned possible "West Nile". The symptoms are varied from different animals and cases, but it might just be a possibility. I'm...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

Quote: I'm also open to the idea that perhaps she has been exposed to rat poison. I have seen our Muscovy eat an entire young rat (before we were using poison) with out an issue, so I'm wondering if she might have eaten feces from rats feeding in their bowl in the middle of the night. I'm a...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

When I initially found her, she was with everybody, but now she's in her dog crate (that she came with) and gets to interact with everybody else for the most part. She hasn't laid at all, and no one else is laying to lead me to think that she might. Also I can't feel anything that would...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

Today she doesn't seem to be doing any better. Maybe getting worse. Now she's not interested in eating, and not drinking a whole lot. I'm not sure what to think.

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

Thanks for the swift replies. We are leaning more towards lameness from possibly too much calcium and perhaps lack of vitamins. We are feeding them layer when they really don't even need it anymore. It just seems so difficult to find actual water fowl feed in my area in one bag. So we're...

Pekin CAN stand, but CAN'T walk.

Sorry if this seems repetitive, but all the other posts I've read, seem to be about younger birds and/or non-duck related. We were given three Pekins over a month ago, to add to our flock. They are about two years old and were seemingly healthy. Yesterday at feeding time one was trying to...

Muscovy eye is closed. Looks like it might be gone.

Hello? Anybody? We're on day 3 and same situation. She seems a bit tired, and unsure of what's going on. She doesn't come out of the coop much, and naps on two legs instead of one. We feel so bad for her.

Muscovy eye is closed. Looks like it might be gone.

Tonight I notice our Muscovy's left eye is closed. We went to wipe it to check it out, and my wife said it looks gone. We put Terramycin on it. The eye looks watery, and the lid and the area around it look relatively OK, not like there was a fight, or any blood. Any advice or things we should...

    Is my duck egg bound?

Well I'm pretty sure you're right. She and a few others are REALLY broody. But I shoo them away can collect the eggs, and then they're right back the next day. I don't know why they didn't do this last year though. Silly Birds... Thanks.

Black East Indies not so black

Our 8 BEI's are looking kind of brownish. I'm a bit concerned why. We feed them Blue Seal Layer feed, which we're not too comfortable doing, because of the calcium and protein portions, but can't find anything that matches the recommended levels. They seem to like to nibble the mud a lot as...

    Is my duck egg bound?

Just an update. A little while later, she's right back inside the duck house sitting back on the nest. Not breathing as heavy, but she's right back at it.

    Is my duck egg bound?

We'll see. She's never acted like this before. Not to mention, she was sitting on the eggs for a few hours. She's outside at this moment with the others.

    Is my duck egg bound?

Yesterday, I found one of my BEI's, at egg collection time, sitting on one of the nests, breathing rather heavily. I thought she was trying to pass an egg so I gave her time and came back. When I returned, she was still there, but I was able to shoo her away so I could collect the eggs. Later...

    Connecticut!

Quote: We get our 2nd cut hay from Kuss Farm in Woodbury. They're on Carmel Hill Rd. We pay about $6.25 a bale and the hay is always good. They're open Sun mornings. Also I think I saw on the tread about wood shavings being crappy at TSC, we actually go to CL Adams in Southbury. The brand...
