be careful when you pick it up. I had one egg that had gone bad that exploded when i picked it up. It was absolutely foul smelling (no pun intended) and got all over my incubator and my hands. My wife almost made me sleep outside it was that bad.
I have had several hens do similar things. If you make a nesting box out of a cardboard box with a bunch of straw in the bottom and then charge her into the crate or a small coop you will know in a few minutes if she has decided to stay broody on the new nest. I have had some hens snub me and...
I built a incubator out of an old mini-fridge using the cooler-bator design from BYC. I lived in California and hatched hundreds of chicks. i have recently moved to Idaho and fired up my incubator in my garage. unfortunately, it is Feb. and freezing cold. so my incubator is having problems...
When i called the department of fish and game about killing or relocating the Great horned owl that got into my coop. the conservation officer told me to open my coop and release the owl (it had got in during the night and couldn't get out.). I told her it would come back and get more of my...
I lived in central california and have lost chickens to dogs, bobcats, cats, hawks and owls.
I doubt that it is a bobcat. the bobcat that I shot had come into my coop at night and got at least one bird but had packed them off. all i found in the coop was a few bloody feathers. the owl on...
it is walking around and it is passing a few droppings but they look to me like they are really runny. It definately feels like air. and it is walking around but it is no longer jumping up on the roost at night. So i know it is uncomfortable.
i have a cross bred chick that is about 3 months old and didn't look good. When I picked it up its abdomen was pulled tight like a ballon. So tight I thought it might explode. It seems like it has built up pressure maybe a linked bowl is something. Any idea on what it might be and possible...
it is tough to tell without seeing the feathers on the back and neck real well. But i would say that at 4 months with comb and waddle development that is that pronounced, it is probably a rooster.
i bought this rooster as a chick abought 5 months ago And I bought than as blue Wyandotte chicks. However when he matured he has gold flecks in his neck, and overall some funny colors throughout. What exact ally is he? I know he has the wrong color legs but that doesn't bother me too much. Is he...

I am moving back home to Idaho in less than a month. I have lived outside of Idaho for the last 7 years. And worse, I have been stuck in California.
But I am moving home to Idaho Falls. Are there any breeders that are close to Idaho falls? I built an incubator and would like to fill it...
Thanks,
It has hatched thousands of eggs. At one time i was putting about a 100 chicken eggs and 90 quail eggs in it every 3 weeks for almost a solid year. It has been pretty fun.
Moving and I want to buy eggs.
I Have a proposition for anyone who is interested. I live in the central valley and have just taken a job in Idaho. So on the 29th of May i will be traveling from the Merced area up through Sacramento and Reno and then to Idaho. I have loved raising chickens...
I think my best layers have been my cross bred hens. I had a RIR rooster and a Buff Orpington rooster and a barred rock rooster over my conglomerate of hens.
I would get some interesting cross bred hens. most of them would lay a big egg and lay very consistently.
So my vote are the...
