I bought a batch of runner ducklings last summer. I love them. We live on a river and they are now living down at the river rather than in the barn. I'm hoping they reproduce this year. Can't get to the eggs - they lay them on an island that I'd need a boat for and it's too cold to mess with...
I've got one coop with some sneezing going on since yesterday. No other symptoms. No sluggish birds. Just 4 or so of 14 sneezing. No discharge. Is there something I should do? Kind of thinking respiratory infection in the early stages.
Welcome to BYC. Great place to hang out with friends. I, too, learned that I did a lot wrong my first time having chickens. I'm doing much better this time around. Now just waiting for it to warm up so I can hang out with them more.
Hi, All,
Just wanted to say that I missed you all. We picked up a new contract with a Nursing home which increased us to (DH and I ) to 60 hours each for work since 12/1. I haven't had the time nor energy to visit here. We hired another PT and new are back to about 45-50 hours (I hope) so I...
We haven't butchered any of the heritage breeds yet, just some production whites that we grew. I plan to keep the Bourbon Reds that I hatched late last summer. I have some pencilled palms also, May keep a couple just cause they look pretty.
Are the chickens new to each other or long standing coop mates? If they are new, they need to establish the pecking order and the lower ones will learn to get away. It sounds like you are in a warm climate where you can get outside. Mine are pecking because it has been sub zero here for quite...

Miss Prissy, I used to feel that way, too. I started with knitted hats and just kept at it. Now I prefer to knit. Still not great at reading patterns, but I learn something new with each new project.
Welcome, Davis Hill Farm!
I won't be setting up any bators in this cold weather. I'll start when spring is closer. I don't want the smelly little buggers in the house any longer than necessary. Plus, I need more coops if I want more chickens. No building this time of year.

We need to make up a "Here's your sign" for those kind of people....
I was just thinking that.
Thanks for the laugh folks. We lost my dear MIL on Wednesday and I so needed a good laugh.
I have noticed less wrist stress with the circulars, too. I just did a project with long straight needles and my left wrist ached a lot. I'll have to dig out the circulars for the next project and see if it helps. Thanks for the suggestion.
