The first one does look like an opal peahen, the second one I don't think is WE but I'm no expert @KsKingBee will definitely know.

Is my silkie a hen or a roo

Hi, this is Hennefir, she was supposed to be a silkie pullet, but now I'm not so sure what she is. She gives off rooster vibes. I'm guessing she's around 19 weeks old She doesn't fight with my cockerell Sesame, and sounds like a pullet but her tail and feathers around her neck makes me...

How to make a pen ready for youngsters...

I would put a good layer of woodchips down on the ground if you are worried if there could be something in the ground. Once you routinely medicate them and they have enough space, they should be fine.

    Lethargic hen

When I picked her up this morning her crop felt like putty, when I gently squished it it stayed in the same shape. The lumpy things were still there. She drank some electrolytes, I think it's impacted crop? What should I do to get rid of it?

    Lethargic hen

Hi, I have a cream legbar x hen that has been very lethargic for the past few days. She has been eating and drinking. Yesterday, I picked her up and felt 2 semi-circular lumps in her crop, and her crop was a bit swollen. She doesn't have a sour crop, there was no sour smell. I don't really know...

Can i hatch chicks with chickens?

It would be nice to hatch chicks under a peahen, but what if I'm waiting for her to sit on the eggs and if she doesn't then all those eggs could be too old to hatch. How long should I wait for her to sit before just incubating them myself. Also what should I be routinely medicating for?

Can i hatch chicks with chickens?

Hi, I was thinking about hatching peachicks next year. This year, neither peahen went broody but laid about 9 eggs each. Next year, could I hatch the chicks under broody silkies and keep the hen and chicks on wire for the 3 months, or should I take them away once they hatch? Also, I have the...

    Weird poop?

Oh yes I forgot to say, she's 16 weeks old so no eggs yet, they're on growers pellets and a few black soldier fly larvae. The poop had a bit of grass and some seedy bits.

Hi, today my buff orpington did this weird looking poo, they were wormed 2 weeks ago. Does this look odd or is it just nothing?

    Open Contest Memories of Summer—2025

My favourite memory of the summer was hatching eggs under a broody hen for the first time. Only one hatched and of course he's a cockerell. That one egg cost me over €1,000 but once Sesame is happy I'm happy. I got him 8 new ladies but sadly 3 died from an unknown illness but they are better...

    Sick chick

I have them inside, as I think when they're outside, that's maybe how they got sick. When they were all sick, I dosed for coccidiocis no good results. They got worse. Then we wormed them a couple of days later , and they started getting better. They were a bit better before I wormed them. They...

    Sick chick

My 14 week old buff orpington pullet keeps feeling poorly. One day she would be great then she would be lethargic and not eat but then the next day she would be fine again. Around 5 weeks ago her and 8 other chicks were sick. None were eating and had diarrhea and were very poorly. This resulted...

    Hen raised vs brooder question

I think they have better chances of being healthy in the wild as they always would be moving onto new ground. But in captivity they would be kept in an enclosure and be on the same ground.

    Dry skin on silkies face!

Hi, today I was holding my silkie pullet and realised she had dry skin all over her face. It's not lice eggs, it's sort of flaky. It was covering one eye. I got a damp cotton pad and gently wiped her face. It cleared lots of the dry skin around and on her eye. Her eye is looking normal. It's not...

What colour is my silkie pullet?

The only other silkie I have is a partridge pullet same age as her. I probably won't breed her for now... as I'm happy with the amount of hens now. But I might in the future.
