Question about shipped ducklings that came in today - no traction in box?

I got 2 ducklings from Metzer's about a year and a half ago. They were on hay like the stuff in your photo; however, there was a nice layer of it and the ducks weren't standing on the cardboard. I'm guessing they just didn't put enough hay in the box. I agree that you should call them, if for no...

    Considering runner ducklings need advice.

I ordered one blue runner and one cayuga (females) from Metzer's a few years ago. I believe they always ship on Mondays and I received mine early Wednesday morning with no problems. My runner girl is my baby and she used to fall asleep on my lap when she was little. Below is a pic of her all...

Review by '' on item 'Cayuga'

My cayuga girl is so sweet and funny. She is short and fat waddles around ruling my duckyard. She is hatchery quality so not a lot of irridescent feathers, but she is still very pretty and my softest duck. Will tolerate me petting and holding her. She likes chasing flying bugs all across the yard.

    Arizona Chickens

Right now I have 8 of various breeds (runner, pekin, cayuga, mixed) but I will downsize if we move. I want to keep two girls for sure (runner and cayuga) and at least one male (pekin). They aren't too loud, but in the morning can be kind of talkative. Baby pools are what I use now, so no change...

    Arizona Chickens

Sorry if this has been asked and answered on this thread, but does anyone here have ducks in Phoenix? I'm in Nebraska right now, but we are seriously thinking about moving to Phoenix and I would love to take my babies. My main concerns are (1) the heat (2) water- would it be too expensive or...

Tell How Predators Got Your Ducks. Save Somebody Else From The Bad Experience

Great thread idea! I have a couple of questions: Amiga (or anyone else using electric fence)- I'm having trouble picturing your set-up. How do you keep the ducks from the electric fence. My ducks are pretty oblivious to the fence and run into it a lot. Maybe you have smart ducks? Also, I'm...

*cry* one of my beautiful anconas was attacked this morning (WARNING: PICS)

I would probably post this in emergencies to get faster responses. I've never had a fly issue with my ducks (in wounds that is), but I've seen it with rabbits plenty of times and it can get really bad really fast! Taking him inside is definitely the best thing. You should also clean out his...

    The Duck Duck Story

Good for you for saving the little guy! You just know that this little one will grow up to be the most loving goose! It makes me really angry to hear stories like this I understand that breeders and hatcheries cannot sell unhealthy or malformed hatchlings, but they should have the decency to...

Snowy Mallards and Welsh Harlequins....what's a show duck supposed to look like?

http://books.google.com/books?id=1HAUAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&client=firefox-a#v=onepage&q&f=false Just for those who are curious, this is the full text from the 1905 version. I'm sure it won't be very helpful for people breeding SQ ducks now, but it is interesting.

tell me what your cleaning routine is!!

I use the deep litter method with straw in their pen, which is a converted dog kennel. I put down straw every day or other day as needed and clean it out maybe 3-4 times a year. I do the same in their house except that it gets cleaned more often. I am planning on buying concrete patio blocks for...

What kind of ducklings and when can they go out?

Cute babies! I put mine out at two weeks. I know this seems really early, but they were in a very secure pen, locked in a large dog house with heat lamp at night, and separate from the other ducks. They are as safe and warm as they were in the garage and being outside really cuts down the smell...

Ok, Small, quiet, friendly ducks? Do they exist?

I would recommend runner ducks. I've always read that they were skiddish, but mine is the only one of all my ducks who will stand and let me pet her. As someone else wrote, I agree that it's probably more about the individual duck and how they were raised. My girl "talks" a LOT but isn't too...

Need advice on broken blood feather

One of my males had a broken blood feather a few months ago. I gave him a bath and put neosporin on it but didn't pull it because it had stopped bleeding. About a month or so later, he started bleeding again in that same spot (maybe same feather?) I again gave him a bath and this time tried to...

Operation Rehab...is there any hope for her?

I don't mean to worry you, but did you say that you traded them one of your pekins? Considering the state of this little one, I wouldn't trust those owners with another duck. I'm really not trying to judge or anything, just curious if their other birds were well taken care of. If they didn't...

Old fashioned Broody Thread for Ducks

Great thread idea! I was looking for something like this when my duck was broody, and there was no centralized place to look. She did hatch out three ducklings, but she tried attacking the first to arrive so I took that one and the other two as soon as they hatched. Anyone have a guess as to...

Good broody- BAD mother (and I am now Mommy...)

Another question: how long do newborn ducklings go without pooping? This duckling hasn't pooped yet (as far as I can tell) and is probably less than 24 hours old.

Good broody- BAD mother (and I am now Mommy...)

One of my ducks has been religiously sitting for almost the full 4 weeks. Yesterday, one egg had a pip. Today, I came home to find empty shell pieces scattered throughout the pen, but no sign of a dead or alive duckling. I looked everywhere and figured the mom ate it (eww...) When I took one...

    hatchlings!!!

So cute! Is this her first time hatching? I have a duck on 3 eggs right now (was 6, but 3 didn't make it) and at least one of them has pipped. I'm worried that she'll trample them. There is another female in there with her. They were sharing sitting duties, but the second one got bored and has...
