    Fall Chicken Garden

Thank you for the link, Mak! I am definitely going to get some. It looks perfect! Thank you for all the veggie suggestions! Those of you who planted kale, and Swiss Chard did you plant the seeds and just let it come up unprotected or did you fence it off and then let them at it when it got big?

I am in the process of ripping out my summer garden, corn, sunflowers, etc. What can I plant for fall that the chickens would like? What cover crops do they like?

Quote: I did this and it worked out great we actually got 29! But the downside is you don't get to pick. There are quite a few I would have liked but didn't get

Quote: Baby raccoons and possums are very cute, would you have re-homed one, or have it killed? Sorry, a predator is a predator no matter how "cute" it might look. Good grief!!!!!! You have got to be kidding me! Pretty much All baby animals are cute. I have neverwritten OR spoken about...

I have to say that I am so glad to have caught him (in addition to all the obvious reasons) so that you all can see how cute he is! It was so surreal to have him as a predator you picture big nasty raccoons and possums not teeny adorable little kittens!

Quote: I don't think you were being rude at all. You were just looking out for the kittens (and societies) best interest, which is helpful to me as I am not a cat owner and do not tend to think like one. I agree that killing the kitten would be awful. I was SO worried about it being in the...

As for the criticisms about my ethics. To be honest with you I just tried to make the best decision possible. My friend gets a huge amount of joy out of her current feral cat and I am quite confident that she will also from the kitten. She is incredibly scrupulous in her care of her cat. I am...

Well here is a wonderful update: after about 4 nights of trying to trap it using a squirrel live trap we did it! We used cat food for the first few nights and it ate it but did not trigger it. Then we tried putting the cat food in a bowl just beyond the triggering device, sort of mashing the...

    Feeding on schedule?

Thanks so much for all the responses. I am aware of how to offer food free choice as that is what I am doing now. The instructor felt that if you offered it to them only at mealtimes you had another tool to gather them with. There was more to it than that I just can't remember.

    Kitten

Quote: I completely get this. I am not mad at the kitten just shaken by the experience. When I envisioned potential predators this was not it! It is SO adorable that I keep getting tempted to keep it/feed it/etc but I just don't think it is the best thing. The idea of going and getting it...

Quote: My husband works construction and therefore has VERY thick callouses. The bite did not break the skin, and the scratches were very superficial. The site looks and feels totally normal. He cleaned it very carefully after. I frankly do not want this kitten around my house. I have two...
