I ordered 5 chicks from Cackle Hatchery and received 6 — which at first seemed like a nice gesture, until one died 2 days later. From the moment I opened the shipping box, all the chicks were itching, biting at their backs, and scratching their heads and beaks nonstop. It was obvious...
Hi! I would like anyone's opinions on if I've got boys or girls here! Silver Lakenvelders, quite wild and obnoxious creatures. Not sure I like these two older ones honestly. I have one other I hatched that is a week old and very personable, pretty sure she's a she. Love her...she's fun and I'd...
Hi, Wow what a scary experience!!! I also read your account of the bear getting inside your house!! I am wondering what kind of bear? And if you have any dogs? And does the electric wire normally prevent this? How many strands of wire, and how high?
I am asking because I'm in black bear...
Thank you!! All of that is very encouraging!!! Seems we women are having more issues with this than the men,....I am guessing from things like hair products, perfume, more girly type scented soaps! lol Maybe we smell better? hahaha!!
Actually here the bugs and the itching is immediate. I walk in the coop, feed and water, leave and I'm itching on my face and hands before I can hardly get the door closed!! But if the temps fall below freezing for a night, then it doesn't happen. Seems to kill them instantly in the cold.
They get me just outside sometimes too, but seem to be coming from the chicken barn mostly. I've had them get in my car, I think I tracked them in on my shoes or clothes...and spraying my car with Lysol fixed it. I've also had them attracted to the light on my cell phone and computer screen in...
LOL on the never washing. They do seem to be super drawn to my hair products or perfumed soaps!!! Where did you get the Fogger? Did you also treat the chickens with anything, like directly on them? Did you forego eating the eggs for a period of time after the treatment? I"m so encouraged that...
omg do you??? are they worse after rain, or on hot days? do you bring them into the house on your clothes sometimes? what do you do to get rid of them, or do they just die out on their own eventually? i'm so afraid my house is going to get infested!!
Yes that is my plan, whether I ever figure out what they are or not. They do respond to staying away from or dying when I spray my clothing with "Off", and when I spray the furniture with Lysol! So it seems they aren't hard to actually kill.....Thanks for the good ideas about washing out the...
no. just said microscopic. :( i'm guessing they will die from same pesticides regular mites die from however!! When they've followed me into the house, I am able to kill them on a chair, for instance, by spraying lysol! so they aren't hard to kill, just hard to irradicate!
Thanks for listing and adding links to the actual products. I have poultry dust, will get some fly spray, and have ordered a permethrin bomb as i am not comfortable mixing and spraying an area as large as i have by hand. :( I have checked the chickens at night, and NOTHING! Literally what I'm...
yes possibly no see ums. But from what i've read you can actually SEE a No See Um! I literally have never seen one of these invisible biting bugs. They do seem to swarm me sometimes much like no see ums would though. And they do seem mostly airborne.
None of these come even close. These bugs are completely INVISIBLE. I can feel them biting me, say on my wrist or hand, I grab the magnifying glass and look, and NOTHING is visible.
