    Injured chick

Still trying to get a picture. Problem seems to be that my email has changed since I was active on this site. Phone has different email. I am just not computer savvy enough. Son will try to help! Went to my vet with pictures, and they were open to looking at the chick, although they say they...

    Injured chick

took a while to get a picture, as I am not too computer savvy. Had to wait until my son came. The chick is now 5 weeks old. We have her in the house in a small cage. She is eating and drinking well, and we clean the wound every day and are putting silvadene on it. One of the large scabs...

    Injured chick

four week old chick has a severe injury to one wing and back. Wing seems to be broken with exposed bone end. Featherless area extends from shoulder to back of neck. I have cleaned it and applied Bactine every day. I have her in the house. She eats well, although she is much smaller than her...

Thanks for the welcome. I realize I've missed the friendship I found here! As soon. As soon as I can figure out how to post a picture, I will look for some help with breed identification for my mystery chick who is a beautiful roo (of course) but I can't figure out what he is. I also have a...

I've been inactive for several years, but joined here in 2007 after I retired and acquired my first hens. At one time l had 30 hens but now am down to 4. In August got 17 new baby chicks assorted breeds, which I am enjoying. Have 2 coops and 3 separately fenced yards. Looking forward to...

    Homestead Invaders

Wow! They sound pretty nervy! On the other hand, they may have no idea that they are invading your peace and privacy and stepping on your toes. Some people are just oblivious to the effect their behavior is having on others. I am by nature a solitary person, and this situation sounds like a...

Not A Good Day, Gotta Laugh Though

Reminded me of what happened to my friend years ago. She was in line at the drug store waiting to pick up a prescription for her sick child, 2 or 3 years old. She was holding him, and had just opened her purse to pay for the medicine when he vomited---into her purse. The pharmacist said...

~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

Linda, I absolutely love reading about your place and your pets. I check this thread daily for new stories and pictures! I've been retired 6 years and it still gives me joy to get up and let the chickens out and think about my "unstructured" day. That's a day when I don't have to be anywhere...

Oh, OK. Going back to post #1 with the pictures taken all around, there is one where you can see the garage door opening, and it is wider than I thought. Some of the pictures taken more from the side make it look narrower, like a one car garage. I did kind of wonder how she got all those...

Your porch is gorgeous! And of course Hitchcock scoffed at the string, your feeble attempt to keep him from his rightful roost! I'm sure when he went in the big coop, he announced, "Move over, hens and peons! I'm taking the highest roost!" He slept in there because he wanted to, not because...

I too am looking forward to pics of the completed porch. I love to see the progress updates, and Linda has such an artistic eye for everything going together just right. I love everything Linda has done with that house, and John's work is so painstaking and perfect. If I had such a great...

~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

It always bothered me that the first complaint was made before she even moved in, and had no chickens there except those tiny chicks. Obviously they were peeking in windows, or maybe someone called the realtors with questions. Linda, you are being too nice for your own good! Much as you...

I know, I know, and I'm sorry. I just couldn't contain myself any longer. Those of us who are vicariously living in the California foothills in a little piece of heaven are hungry for news! Linda writes so well and her adventures finding her house and moving her flock, and yes, dealing with...

So glad to hear Linda is OK and dealing with the problem with her usual unruffled capability. I have been glued here all week, anxiously awaiting news! I am SO aching for an update about what happened at the hearing, who said what and what's next. I know it's still too early on the west...

Excellent advice from Wisher, Linda. I would just come down just a tiny bit heavier on the concern about harassment. What is it going to take to get these people off your back? I hope the county supervisors are somewhat embarrassed about it, provided they didn't OK the reopening of the...

~ Retired and Starting My Future In The Foothills ~

I don't understand why this was reopened. In the last hearing, it was determined that the language in the county codes was ambiguous, therefore it could not be ruled that she could NOT keep poultry on her property. I thought that the way it was left was that she WAS allowed because it did not...

Here's a caption for the ninth picture down (John looking at his hand): "Was that chicken poop I just put my hand on?" Sorry, couldn't resist! Your porch and steps are absolutely beautiful. It will be so nice when you have your own area, clean and screened. Do you think the birds will let...

I don't think the fugitive bunnies could adjust to life in the Big House again. Life on the outside is too good. No guards, no bed checks. They've been on the run too long, dodging the law and enjoying their freedom. They are the cutest things! I love those little short ears and furry noses!
