Looking for ~ a dozen hatching eggs. Would love Blue or Buff, Splash or Black as second choice.
If anyone has any near the Michigan/Wisconsin border I'm interested in talking. Send me a private message.
Personally I wouldn't go below 4:1 girls to drakes
I would set up some sort of lighting and give them a static 'daytime' that's around 10 hours if you want to get more consistent laying
Yea, she was actually looking at me not the camera. Ellie (the blue swedish) was always a favorite but so was Erik (the white crested)
So they'd constantly compete for attention.
Also if you want to hear a bunch of ducks I could suggest a place to go and watch about 18 of them live. It's something I do and people enjoy just listening (including me)
I find that ducks 'train' you
When they want SOMETHING they start screaming like that.
Just like kittens yowl until you put food in the bowl.
My ducks know they go inside at a certain time, if I forget or I'm 5 minutes late you can bet they'll let me know how displeased they are.
Usually they...
Not set in stone yet, but hoping. If it does go through I'll have space to give them a huge man-made pond and triple their area (plus give them some orchard to play in maybe)
Ducks don't care. If it's wet it's splash time.
I had a deep enough bit of water last year in my coop and they were more than happy to sleep while floating.
Yea... I bought a stock tank and filled it with water. Just that act alone they wouldn't go near it for 3 days (until I picked up one of them and put them in it) and then it was happy splash fun time every day since. Ducks are smart/suspicious. If they don't like something or if they don't have...
That'd be ideal. I'd at least be in the same vehicle so I could talk to them - believe it or not I can get them to shut up and go to sleep most of the time.
2 per box seems ideal. Just do them in a circle and pad the center so they can talk to eachother. I probably wouldn't stop more than once...
Seems like some good thoughts here. I like the idea of boxes with holes out the side - will allow them movement without wrapping them and still keep them from uhh.... going nuts.
I have:
Runners, black and blue swedish, buff, welsh, pekin, cayuga, appleyard, and saxony.
I like having the khakis...
Looking for some guidance... I have 18 quackers and I'm looking at moving about 9 hours away. Nothing is said and done but I want to be prepared with whatever I need should things happen as I hope.
My ducks have never been particularly happy to be wrapped, however it's winter and I think they'd...
I've had my ducks get rid of the fakes. doesn't matter which color or size they knock it away like a pingpong ball.
Skunks, possum, raccoons, snakes, fox, coyote, etc... will all eat eggs.
Only real way to tell is to sit and watch or put up a camera to catch the thief.
How is it bad customer service that they don't respond on days off? I've never had a problem changing my order with metzer but always did it during business hours on the phone.
I realize it's early but a pair of the mixed ducks I hatched have developed an interesting color and I'm curious if anyone has seen it. Best I can figure is they're khaki and runner cross based on their features.
I have a khaki drake and runner/pekin/khaki/rouen/cayuga/rouen+mallard ducks.
