Hi there!
Welcome to the wacky world of guineas. i got 4 guineas last year for tick control altho DH says there's hardly tick in our place - NW washington. i see deer in ourr property and i have a dog and i don't like ticks. guineas are fun. noisy, yes but it's worth it. they forage...
my 3 female indian runner ducks are laying an egg every day. i have 3 male ducks as well. i will hatch them. what ambiant temps in the coop where the eggs get laid are optimum for viability? i have collected eggs presumably laid at 37-39 degrees. do i need to wait for warmer temps?
is...
I have the same question about ducks - indian runner. i get 3 eggs every morning (from all 3 female ducks ). our temp overnight is still below 40 degrees, i'm from washington state. (warmer temps are coming according the weather forecasts). i was in the quail thread last year and someone...

just asking - will this kind of snake get into 1/2" hardware cloth floored, walled and ceilinged hutch? point being - how do i snake-proof my quail hutch ?
thanks,
emma
and i guess i caught the same bug afflicting the guys in this quail forum - hatch, raise, build pen, get eggs, hatch, raise, build pen, get eggs etc etc
(i wonder if fatdaddy is still having facial twitches because of temporarily suppressing the hatching urge. last time i read, he saw an egg...
thanks Mibotsu and JJ.
i am feeding 30% GBS from the start but have begun with medicated one, as i got it for the guineas. now GBS is not medicated anymore. these guys were hatched June 25, so they're 6 weeks and 2 days. i guess the fart eggs are just expected. but then again, i got one...
i picked up my first egg today.
1. i hv 8 quails, 2 whites, 3 golden, 3 browns. the whites, one is smaller than the other. does it mean one is male the other is female? i'm sure there's one golden male and one brown male. do i have too many roosters?
2. the golden male (he crows...

were you hatching quails with "humidity is usually around 30%-40% during the incubation period, and 60%-70% after lockdown"? what was your hatch rate? how many hatched out of how many eggs? did u hatch your own eggs or were they shipped?

hi quintinp,
can u explain further about quail hatching. i just had a dismal result of my two hatches. i hv a DIY styrofoam incubator.
first hatch - 9 out of 60 shipped eggs. was opening incubator to turn, 50% humidity for the first 14 days, 70% during lockdown.
second hatch - 8...

hi scotty,
if you don't mind describing the circumstances sorrounding the very impressive hatch rate - were eggs shipped? what kind of incubator did u have? did u use dry incubation or otherwise? what were your temps and rh levels? did you set eggs right away (where did they come...

Hi,
i take it that your incubator has a humidity level indicator. you can get another hygrometer and calibrate it, to make sure that you are getting correct readings. there's lots of threads here on how to calibrate.
a couple of days ago, i picked up used rabbit hutches - 4 pieces for $15! 3 are 3'X4' and 1 is 2'X3'.
instant hutches for my 8 quails brooding in the rubbermaid tote in the kitchen.
the quails i now call the smelly birds are going out to the pumphouse in their new digs, as soon as the rains...
1 - thermometers - i tend to trust the analog ones, my own opinion. unless you have pricey digital ones that are priced to be very accurate.
put them at the egg tray or egg level.
2. different temps - the temp at egg level is more important. some people calibrate by having a sensor inside a...

Hi,
would you like to try the styrofoam ice chest? (first time that i hv seen a plastic tub and insulation, no comment on whether holding the temp well). you can go to any supermarket. they're mostly kept at the top of the freezers. you'd probably find two sizes, i got the big...
