Sprouted grains, legumes and seeds are thought to be more digestible and more nutritional than dried grains, legumes and seeds.
You can't trust all the literature out there, but do a search and you will see a predominance of advantages to eating sprouts.
And wouldn't you rather eat hydrated fesh...
This is from a CDC posting. Obviously Mt. Healthy has a problem that is just not getting corrected. What can we do to get the word out?
"Findings of multiple traceback investigations of live baby poultry from homes of ill persons have identified Mt. Healthy Hatcheries in Ohio as the source...
Have you tried a game cam?
We have found them to be VERY interesting. Pretty amazing what creeps around your yard all night.
Including the human type.....
Ha! Looks like perfect nesting areas. The little dopes.
I dont know. I've had hens that just wanted to be contrary. No matter what I did to get them to nest. they insisted on finding their own place. And I think that when one does it, others tend to follow.
Good luck.
I've found that my girls must have privacy. My nesting boxes are open to the front. We happened to have a small chicken tractor that I used for a broody. when we let her and her chicks out, we propped it up with bricks. Now my 20 other hens go into the little tractor which has a secluded nesting...
I have no problem grabbing a black snake, provided I have a leather glove on. grab it by the tail or the neck.
Black snakes are fabulous predators and will keep the rodent population down so I do hate to kill them.
You can get bird netting (really cheap from Tractor Supply or online) and...
Wow. She doesnt look good at all. looks neurological.
I wonder if she has an underlying issue and the mites were a secondary opportunistic infection.
I am not an expert but my suggestion would be to put her out of her misery.
So sorry. Anyone else have an idea?
how big is the coop? are they crowded?
do they have shade?
maybe something got in the coop and scared them to the point that they piled on top of each other and got heat stroke?
A disease, parasite, vitamin deficiency should not kill that fast. you would see her getting sick.
Maybe a fowl can...
You could try a splint. Give it some stability so she can use it like a crutch. Use something like a popsicle stick wound with medical tape? She may be able to hobble along.
It sounds like a bone break, tendonitis or muscle strain. It may heal, who knows. if she's young, shes got a better...
Hello friends!
Hoping for some advice or observations on this problem:
In May, I had a flock of 25 hens and one very large roo. A few (3-4 out of 19) of my hens have missing feathers on their backs.
The one in the pic is the worst. Her other feathers are normal. Vent looks fine. Eyes bright...
I have concentrated all my efforts on owls, hawks, coyote, possum because they have all taken many birds.
Yesterday we put 6 3-week old chicks out. they were inside a 30x36" rabbit cage, the cage was in a 10x10x6 chain link enclosure with top. All this is within electric net fencing.

I have a broody with eggs that will hatch in 20 days. I also have 6 3 week olds from a class incubator project.
Can I put them in with the broody? will the hen ignore them? what about when chicks hatch?
Please help.

Hello all,
I just set a broody in a small enclosed coop today. I happen to have six 2 week old chicks from a school project also.
Do you think I can put those chicks into the coop?
I'm thinking mom-to-be will ignore them during incubation, but what about when her chicks hatch?
Please any...
