Hen with messy vent and bad odor coming from mouth

She has survived the day. ACV, yogurt, buttermilk, and Olive oil is what I have given her today. Had to give it by syringe, she is not eating or drinking anything. There is so much conflicting info on this topic. I fell like it isn't a good idea to make her vomit. Aside from the possibility of...

Hen with messy vent and bad odor coming from mouth

I read up on the internet and after going back out and feeling her crop it was full of fluid and I could also feel a whole corn kernel in there. I know it was a corn kernel b/c there was some scattered on the groud in the yard ( thanks to my kids). She has had a messy vent for a few days so I...

Hen with messy vent and bad odor coming from mouth

I have a hen that is about 3 years old. I have noticed the past few days she has a messy vent when she has never had this problem befor. Today when I let the chickens out I noticed that she had layed down in the grass in the yard. This is very uncharacteristic of her. When I approached her to...

Just had a chick hatch with large blood sac

I agree that the chick didn't need any help. However, the deed is done and constructive criticism would have sufficed. If you incubate eggs you are taking the natural process of the embryonic growth and hatching and making it,well, not so natural. In this situation problems could very well...

update w/ pics....Piped over 13 hours and geting nervous

I have had a few that take over 24 hours to hatch. Every chicken is different and just b/c they may not pop right out doesn't mean there is anything wrong. Just be very patient.

    Australorps

I have four Australorp hens and one roo and they are all beautiful birds. They are very docile and curious. My rooster is very protective of his ladies and yet he is calm and behaves himself around my kids and I. I would definately recommend having this breed of chicken.

Just had a chick hatch with large blood sac

I have had to help several chicks hatch and it is a safe process as long as you know what you are doing. You can't just jump in there and start tearing the shell off. You have to use extreme caution because every move you make could mean life or death for that chick. Everyone is not made to do...

    Need consolation...

I had the same problem with my hens laying eggs on top of setting eggs. I took a red marker and marked an "x" on the small end of each egg to be hatched. Then at the end of every day I would fo out and lift the hen up and get any fresh eggs out from under her. I am really sorry this happened...

What attacks like this? Graphic pic

We live in the burbs also and we have quite a racoon problem. I have to put heavy weight on my garbage can lid to keep them from digging and making quite a mess. They multiply very fast and are very sneaky little things. Our coons wait until dark and start making their rounds all around the...

    sad, just sharing

Your source of relaxation is your chickens(I think everyone here understands that) and her source of relaxation unfortunately is alcohol. I'm sure it is not pleasant for you to have an alcoholic neighbor, what with all the nasty little things that come along with it. If there is no law that...

    EMERGENCY!!!!

Are you offering food such as cooked egg(boiled or scrambled), maybe a starter mash, yogurt, or applesauce. Anything that is a treat that she will be more likely to eat that will give her some energy to combat the wound. Very sorry this happened to you. That dog needs to be taken care of in...

I lost track of time!!! Momma & Baby pic

I secured the pen so all the babies will be safe. When I returned to the coop with the food tray I had refilled Penny(the hen on the left) had gotten up off the eggs and was making lots of noise like she does when she gets upset. I looked down at the eggs and saw that one of the baby chcks was...

I know after humans have seizure they have a period of confusion that wil last sometime after. This could definately be a possibility but I don't know what you can do for her. Sorry I couldn't be anymore help. I hope she makes it.

    Scalely Chicken Foot - Pics

I didn't mean any offense by mentioning the need for outside time. I figured you were "in the process" of establishing their housing. We did the same thing with my first three boys we had from the time they were about a week old and they were in the house in a makeshift coop for about four...
