Help! Baby pecked almost to death

Gingerly and Dawg, thank you for the info. I have cleaned the head wound, put triple antibiotic ointment on it and lightly wrapped it. Afterwards I saw Dawgs reply and read the thread you attached. It says not to use ointment with pain reliever. Unfortunately I did use an ointment with pain...

Help! Baby pecked almost to death

This chick escaped the brooder tonight as I was refilling their water. The hens pecked her skin clean off her head before I found her. What can we do to save her? The skin is gone from her head.

Yes, SSS is Shoot, Shovel, Shut up. It's sad to kill an animal, but we must protect our families and livestock.

    Pit bulls in my coop!!

Our 8 year old pit bull is the most mild and gentle dog I've ever known. She is sweet as can be, but she looks awfully scary. We have small children and she is wonderful with them. She is also great with our chickens. She roams the property while they peck around and forage freely. The...

    Can chickens eat cinnamon?

I asked a friend how her chickens lay eggs with such deep yellow/orange yolks. She does not allow her chickens to free range like ours do. She said its because she pours cinnamon on their feed.

Stine will not recommend anyone for fear of liability. They do give out a long list of local contractors though. It's incredibly difficult to find a handyman (who is actually handy) around here. I have called at least a dozen contractors and they either think the job is too small or they are...

Well I have an unfinished coop that I desperately need to complete. I had a "professional contractor" from the paper but they turned out to barely know how to use a power drill. Would any of you "La-yers" know someone near DeRidder who may be able to help me for $$$? I need my pen enclosed...

We have seen coyotes in our yard twice now. The first time the chickens were in the coop and the second time they were free ranging. The coyotes completely ignored them...or didn't see them. I don't think I am ready for a peachick then. We have 16 guinea keets at the moment.

So if I have trees then the peacocks will roost in them at night? I wouldn't need to build them a separate coop?

Grown chickens pick up on it quickly too. The nipple water system is such a lifesaver!
