Freshly hatched chick was taken from nest - severely chilled! HELP!

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with getting what I need together for college. The chick died. :( On a positive note, though, two of its siblings hatched today!

Freshly hatched chick was taken from nest - severely chilled! HELP!

Alright. It seems to be doing OK right now so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It does have a wound on the side of its head around its eye were I assume the rat bit it. I cleaned it and sprayed it with Vetericyn, so I'm hoping it heals fine but if it doesn't it will probably go blind in that eye.

Freshly hatched chick was taken from nest - severely chilled! HELP!

She's sitting on the other eggs right now. I tried giving it back to her but it's her first time hatching and I don't know if she knows what to do with it. She just kind of looked at it then back at me like "Yeah, and what am I supposed to do?"

Freshly hatched chick was taken from nest - severely chilled! HELP!

I have a freshly hatched chick that I found outside of the closed coop this morning. I strongly suspect it was a rat who decided that the meal was too big for it. It was covered in ants when I found it. It is peeping very loudly and it isn't moving much. I have it in a "double-boiler" for lack...

    Black Jersey Giant thread!!!!!

Does anyone have any pictures of their chicks after starting to feather in? I was sold some BJG, was really excited to get them, and they started feathering in and they're not feathering purely black. They have red/gold leakage, and it's pretty bad. I'm pretty sour about it, considering the...

Duck Breed Focus - Silver Appleyard

Hello! It's been a while since I posted. I've got a few questions about ducks. I've never had ducks before, so I don't know much about them. What kind of feed do they need? Can they have regular chicken feed, or do they need a game mix? Are Silver Appleyards a good laying breed? I intend to...

    Growth/Abscess?

Unfortunately I couldn't get her to hold still, and it's too close to her eye for me to really want to risk it. She seems to be doing fine without intervention, she eats and drinks and squabbles with the other birds like normal and no one picks at it. I don't like leaving it there, but I just...

    Growth/Abscess?

Unfortunately she isn't being very cooperative and I'm not a very steady hand (or stomach) for this kind of thing. I read a from a few other posts on here that taking Q-Tips and swabbing any protrusions on the inside of the eye should break up the "plug" and pus should come out with some...

    Growth/Abscess?

Checked, it's a bit swollen and looks like there's some clear stringy drainage (mucus?) I couldn't get a picture, it's too dark now. I think I might attempt to lance it tomorrow evening after the fiance comes home to help. Definitely not a one man job.

    Growth/Abscess?

Darn iPod didn't post them. :( Here's a couple pictures. It's gotten pretty nasty the past couple days.

    Growth/Abscess?

My EE hen has a growth/abscess on her face. It started off small, barely noticeable, but now it's gotten quite big. Her eye has some clear discharge now as well. It's hard to the touch. Should I try to drain it?

NEED ADVICE - Severe Thigh/Back Wound

Thank you so much! I might venture on trying to cut the skin off... I've got a nice sharp pair of kitchen shears that'll get the job done perfectly. I'm just scared of it possibly bleeding. I've got blood stop powder, but I'm not so confident on using it on such a terrible wound. Again, thank...

NEED ADVICE - Severe Thigh/Back Wound

I have an Ameraucana hen who has a SEVERE thigh/back wound. It looks like it's from one of my Orpington Roosters mounting her. It essentially just flayed her side. It happened unbeknownst to me until a couple days ago, when she came to the feeder after I had set it down and it looked like she...

    Rabbits!

Personally, I'd ask, but I've got an abrasive personality and offending people doesn't bother me as much as it should. It would be a good thing for you to know if it is a reoccurring issue, especially if you planned on buying more rabbits. I'd keep feeding the critical care food until the issue...

    Rabbits!

I'd try to get him in sooner. Has he had anything to "grind" down his teeth. Rabbits need foliage to keep their teeth from growing too long.

    Rabbits!

Thank you guys for all your help so far! I'll be sure to put in some toys/items to keep them busy and make sure they have a mineral lick if I feed mostly greens or hay. I've read does eat their kits if they don't have enough minerals, but I'd like to save them for US to eat! LOL. The guy I'm...

    Rabbits!

Thinking about getting meat rabbits, and I'm trying to gather some information. I have a couple questions I'm hoping you guys might be able to answer. What is the bare minimum of space required per rabbit? What is the animal-friendly recommended amount? What is the best diet for meat rabbit...

    Feed Store Bantams

Figured out what the yellow/grey one is... Spitzhauben! It's feathers are coming in and it has a little head pouf I didn't quite notice before. It's white with a bit of black in the wings. The first one died, along with all the d'uccles. They had pasty butt that I was treating but they passed...

    Pasty Butt

I do about a capful of Braggs ACV in their chick waterer. I'm pretty sure my chick feed isn't medicated, which I didn't even think about. I'll go buy some tomorrow. I might use some Neosporin on the chick's bum tomorrow, the kind safe for animals. I'm really hoping no one is picking.

    Feed Store Bantams

Bump? Bought a few more chicks, but I know what these guys are. Bantams Silkie, Mille Fleur D'uccle, and Porcelain D'uccles, along with a couple standard EEs. Still don't know what these guys are though.
