Just got back from the Onalaska feed store. Bought a bag of Xcel all purpose feed, pellets, 18% protein, and a bag of real oyster shell flakes is on order. I might plant something today. Beans, tomatoes, squash and/or cucumbers. What happens happens.
Garden is watered. I might plant my tomatoes today. They've been outside hardening off the last week or so, so they're ready to plant.
It's amazing how much better they've done outside with natural sunlight in the mornings, compared to being inside under grow lights. Guess I need an outdoor...
I just got around to starting a germination test on the rattlesnake beans I saved from last year's vines. Should've done it long ago. 20 random seeds between sheets of wet paper towels, on a plate covered with plastic wrap. I'll leave it outside in the shade during the day to keep them warm.
I...
I need to plant my beans. And squash. And cucumbers. And tomatoes. The soil is finally warming up here. And after I get those planted I think I'm done planting until it's time to plant my fall crops.
I rig up a double boiler and heat it to around 190° then cool it down to the 115-120° and add the starter. Maybe I'll try heating to a lower temp, like 183 or so. I use just regular, cheap store bought whole pasteurized milk. The yogurt's not great consistency, but still good for my gut I think.
I've done that. Fermented yogurt and drained it through a coffee filter in a strainer for half a day. It did taste very close to cream cheese.
And it's easy to make. Heat the milk, cool it to around 115-120 degrees and whisk in the starter (about 1/4 cup of yogurt from the last batch). I put...
I bought a bag of stevia powder to use in my coffee as a sugar replacement. Dang, that's nasty stuff! I switched back to organic sugar mixed with blackstrap molasses. That tastes much better.
Hahaha! Wild water. Never heard that one before, but it's true.
I ran the weed eater and cleaned up around all the garden beds and trimmed down the weeds in the ditch along the road.
Fertilized the dill and beets and watered the garden. I need to start picking, eating and freezing my kale and collards. They're getting big. I still have frozen greens from...

I saw the pics before reading your post and thought you made a batch of homemade tofu!
I fill up a watering can with diluted weed tea fertilizer and poured it over my volunteer dill plants and my row of beets, then watered it into the soil. I gave everything else a shot of water while I was at...
I hauled a few bales of straw in the back of my truck a few weeks ago. Now I have oats or wheat growing in the bed of the truck around the edge of the rubber mat. Guess I'll let them grow and see what happens. LOL
I put my tomato plants outside on the deck railing a few days ago. They get direct sun until around 1pm and then shade the rest of the day. They're reaching for the morning sun, so I guess they're adjusting ok.
I mowed the rest of the yard today. I might rake up some of the grass later, after it's dried out, and use it for garden mulch.
I chopped off one of my chive clumps today. Cleaned it up and chopped it, bagged it and put it in the freezer. I got right at one and a half pounds into a gallon...
My big girls are acting a little more aggressive toward the 8 week olds sometimes, but nothing too harsh. Just letting them know how to act and who's boss.
My little 3 week olds are in the outdoor coop now with constant heat source going, food, water and deep woodchip mulch bedding.
I picked...
I chopped down one big clump of chives, sorted, washed, chopped into 1" lengths and bagged for the freezer. I got a one gallon bag packed tight, plus a small bag of chive blossoms. Total weight... 1.5 pounds. Now to figure out how to eat that many chives. And there are many times that amount...
I just finished moving the little chicks out of the indoor brooder box and into their section of the chicken coop outside. They'll have heat 24/7, and I set up a light to come on automatically at 7AM, off at 8PM.
The big chickens are looking at them through the hardware cloth with curiosity...
