    Interesting. I can't imagine getting chicks overnight-how nice. I have ordered chicks from Ohio and NC and theyve both taken only a little over 24 hours to get here in SW Va, which isn't bad, but you still worry they won't make it.

    It could very well be incubation error, as I was depending on 2--3 broody hens to hatch this egg and they weren't consistently sitting on it.

    I just had a 20-day old embryo die last night ( possibly was crushed or was not developing right and died a day or two before). I am fairly sure about the mother ( Mottled Cochin Bantam, who is tiny) but the father could be either a White Silkie rooster or my Buff Brahma rooster ( who is huge)...

    Thanks for the info. The egg got smashed by one of the other hens in the nest box last night, and the chick ( dead) looked to be a couple days behind in development, so I'm guessing something wasn't right and it had already died, and then the shell was pecked...or tried to hatch early and then...
