USPS Priority Mail vs. Priority Express.....effects on hatching rates for hatching eggs??

I am wondering if anyone here has noticed differences in percentages of eggs hatched shipped by Priority Mail vs. Priority Express?? Does it make a difference in numbers of hatching eggs that actually hatch? I've used Priority Mail for chicks and had no problems, but for hatching eggs, I'm curious. Thank you.

I can't say I've noticed a difference between because I've always just chosen the fastest available that the buyer is willing to pay for.
That said, I doubt the level/speed of service will affect hatchability other than how much time is wasted in transit. Every day delay in commencing incubation will have a corresponding reduction in hatchability.
I could be wrong, but I don't believe there will be a difference in care of handling that would affect hatching. The reason being that unless one pays the exorbitant additional cost of hand carrying the parcel, similar handling through automated systems would be encountered regardless of level of service. Parcels rarely see a postal employee's hands except at the start and finish. They travel down conveyors and get dropped into bins at the end, occasionally being diverted to different conveyors by automated equipment.

Makes sense!!

In my experience, the postal service isn't the same animal it was 5 years ago. I always sang the praises of the USPS because it was one of the best in the world, a huge feat for such a huge populous country. Send a postcard from Miami or New York to the middle of nowhere in Montana, Alaska or wherever for pennies. Just imagine that. Louis DeJoy, a man with no postal experience was appointed to be postmaster solely because of a huge donation to the Trump campaign. The result was the gutting of one of the greatest institutions in the US. It had been operating on a shoestring for decades since congress legislated that it be completely self-funded including fully funding pensions. No other government agency was so burdened. Then DeJoy eliminated all overtime and sold off high speed sorting equipment. One immediate effect was huge delays in the delivery process. You can research it. Millions of day-old chicks died stranded on docks. I could no longer get overnight shipping anywhere no matter how much I paid. At that time, I quit shipping chicks and only shipped eggs which then took 1 to 3 days longer than previously.
I'm holding out hope this will improve since DeJoy resigned in March. It will take a long time to rebuild the agency.
In the old days, a letter from anywhere in the country would usually arrive at my house in 2 days.
A case in point, I'm now waiting for a check that was mailed 10 days ago. Hopefully it will arrive today. A delay like that had never happened in my previous 70+ years.
The old joke of "the checks in the mail" became a reality.

The USPS has truly gone south. When I ordered chicks in the 1970's through 2018, I never had a single DOA. Sadly, it has become commonplace since and I have made the decision to not order any more through the mail.

Interesting. I can't imagine getting chicks overnight-how nice. I have ordered chicks from Ohio and NC and theyve both taken only a little over 24 hours to get here in SW Va, which isn't bad, but you still worry they won't make it.

You were fortunate. I reside in Southside VA along the central NC border and had some poor Blue Rosecomb bantam chicks that came from Missouri a few weeks ago that sat in the Roanoke, VA distribution center for almost a day. Had 9 of 18 DOA and lost 5 more within hours of arrival. Fortunately, the 4 that survived the transit ordeal are doing well.

I think it is mostly luck for similar services (not say next day air!), I’ve had it take 2 days and over a week with the same service. I’ve had 80% and 20% hatch rates with eggs that were an equal time in the mail. Time in transit, temperature extremes, and rough handling all affect results and each package is going to have a different story and you can’t control any of it once that box leaves your custody. Just don’t send it media mail!
