Took me forever to find this thread again! I hope BYC has their update done. I've been lost for days, lol. In the meantime, I've had a few hatches with mediocre results. I can't seem to hatch poults to save my life! Out of 4 dozen eggs I've got 2 live poults. I've lost another 6 so...
I think I caught the Polish with Wry Neck real early. I saw it twist its neck around and walk backwards twice. I have it in a rubber tote now and I haven't seen it do it at all. I'm giving it Poly Vi Sol, Vitamin E and scrambled eggs. I don't know that it is better, but certainly not worse...
I forgot that I don't get notices of new posts for this thread even though I'm subscribed. I had 13 pages of unread posts! Looks like everyone is moving along with their hatches. Congrats to those with new babies and condolences for the ones that have been lost. Things have been busy on our...
I am just over 2,000 ft. I was following a chart for raised elevation. It showed incubation humidity at 61% and hatch 71%. Since I dialed down though chicks are hatching much better! So here in Texas, I guess I can be "normal".
Hatch in progress! Looks like I'm having better success this time around. So much for needing higher humidity if at higher elevations. I lowered my incubation humidity to 45%-50% and my hatch humidity to about 60% and let it rise naturally as the chicks hatch. 3 of my 5 Buckeyes hatched...
USPS shaking them up is an understatement. If you are having eggs shipped, make sure you are getting them from someone who knows what they are doing when it comes to shipping eggs so you have a better chance with them.
I removed 5 Buckeye eggs and 11 Silkie eggs from the turner today. One of the Buckeye eggs was broken when I received it. There were 2 initially, but 1 didn't develop. I put wax around this one and it was cracked and dented very badly. It is still developing! I will bump the humidity up for...
I haven't been getting subscription notices either. Only for this thread. All the other I'm subscribed to seem to be working fine. The property sounds exciting! I drove from California to Texas just to look at ours. I thought it was crazy to purchase something without physically seeing it...
Thanks. When I get a broody hen, I will definitely try what you do. Right now I'm just getting set up, so its incubator or purchase chicks/poults. You are correct about chicks/poults. I have found that I lose them within 24 hours of hatch if there is a problem and between 6-8 days if...
I'm pretty sure this is just a matter of more practice/experience issue, just wanting back up that I'm not missing anything. It is just sad and frustrating.
Let me add that I wasn't real pleased with the hatch. I locked down 7 eggs, started with 10, Of the 10, 2 were clear and 1 quit early. At hatch 3 eggs didn't hatch. 2 of those had internally pipped. 4 others hatched. The 2 I lost yesterday hatched on Day 27. The other 2 hatched on Day 28...
Yes, they were eating and drinking. I assisted the first few days until I saw them doing it on their own. I had also given them some plain yogurt and Pedialyte until I was satisfied they were eating well. Like I said, it was my first time with newly hatched so I don't know if I was missing...

UGH! I just went through this. I bought bantam cochin frizzle eggs. They were shipped less than 200 miles. I candled them and put them in the incubator after sitting for 30 hours. On Day 2, 1 started oozing so I removed it. It was stinky. Day 3 there were 2 oozing eggs removed those stinky...
I hatched my first batch ever of turkeys 6 days ago. I had 3 survive hatch. 1 had a bad navel and passed within the first 24 hours. Yesterday at 6 days I lost my other 2 poults. I noticed that since hatching they were very "clumsy", I thought it was from their big feet. I had them in a...
