    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Oh, I forgot to mention that during that bad storm I had my gold spangled Spitzhauben rooster never left the chicks/ juveniles side the whole time. He had a few hens stay with him and the babies stayed close to them or under them.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

And I have some chickens that can rub brain cells together! The Silver Ameraucana rooster from the compromised pen followed me an got in the pen they were put up in last night. He actually waited on me at the other pen until I called him over to the Crested EE pen and told him to get in. The I...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

If it's in a room should be no issues. I do heat plates from day one of my hatches. I use clear totes as well for ambient light when I have lights on in the room. Plates are warm enough for an indoor brooder. Even when my house was at 56 it worked fine. No draft issues indoors helps. The...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Producer's pride is the brand I have from TSC. Yeah have to take in the fact I'm in south TX so my weather is conducive to useing heat plates. They do like to sit on top and poop on them.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I do. I use the ones you can get at TSC. I have one smaller than that as well. The TSC can handle maby 30 to 40 chicks. My little one probably 15 to 18. Bothe will fit the large totes. The TSC one with just enough room for feed and water. My little one gives them room to out from under it. The...

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I brood in my office room right next to the incubator and hatcher. First two weeks if I have 12 or more. When I have six or less they get an extended stay inside. 🥰

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I think next time I've got extra money I'm investing in some solor powered electric fence for the coops. One for each coop as they are not that close together.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Sigh, rain came early. Got the tarp up half way because the pens are joined and it's hard to get one end where I want it. So I chased the babies into the other side. Lol. Ill have to move the entire flock from the compromised pen into the one the silkies was in. Till the rain is done. It's not...

Ameraucanas in a Nutshell (looking for pictures of Ameraucanas with defects and quality birds)

I think most breeders don't cull early on Ameraucana unless it's like willow legs, cross beak or something else that is way off. Ameraucana seam to take more time to show their full potential.

    The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Effing heck. Coon broke in to the Silver Ameraucana pen and killed one of the only two hens I have and all her babies. Now I have to hardware cloth the top of the pen. Set backs are heck.
