Hi everyone,
Feeling the need for some group support. Just accidentally killed my baby chicks ¼
Integration with the pullets was going well and today is day three of a few hours in the big coop with the ladies who are 6.5 months old. Around this time every day I move the coop it rolls...
My girls did it once, so I removed the dividers , now they have one long shelf if you will with hay on it. I often find the eggs all together in the middle with the hay all nicley sorted in a nest circle. Thats my cure for fighting and I don't have to go hunt for eggs
I have been having the same chat with my son as to why we cant/dont have a rooster since he could walk LOL. He is all like but mummy I want babies haha. He is now 3.5 and he has desided he is our rooster so runs around the yard "roo roo roo" haha I should tape it and send it to funniest home vides.
It is too cute.
My girls both reds, one laid right from day two at home. Our second laid after a few days of settling in. She has now begun to lay at the same time as Holley. Today we were woken by a very loud Holley cheering on Emily as she laid. Only to go out half an hour later and find...
I use hay for my girls and change it weekly unelss they poop in it. They usually sit on their roost that sits over grass. I throw it onto the vegie patch, or right onto the garden. Keeps down weads and my pumpkin has gone nuts as have the other vegies.
My girls rouse at me if I dare go down the yard with no scraps LOL its like Bawk Bawk (what does she have) and if I walk past and don't give them even a pat, Bawk BAwk BAWk BAWK BAWK BA BA. It is so worth sometimes just walking past the cage not saying anything to get a reaction LoL.
Thanks for that link. I also checked with the feed place today when I pikced up some more lay mash. It is not uncomen to have here due to the wet and it is treatable with olive olil. Comical to apply to the girls as they wanted to eat the q tip. I was told its the chicken equivalant to...
I had thoght of that. We live in the tropics and are in the middle of the wet season. So raining and damp but no frost. Will post pictures of it when I can.
any other ideas?
The spots are mid way on her comb in a line. Nothing elce has shown up yet and its now day two. Still only on one...
Hi Has anyone herd of white spots on their girls comb several following the line of the comb in the middle. Just checked on my ladies and found Emily Red Sexlink has this on her comb. No other issues that I am awear of. She like her sister are both free range and both laying well.
Is this...
You laugh so hard at silly chicken questions you almost fall off your chair. IE from a dear blond friend of mine.. " dont you need a rooster to get eggs?"
HAHA
Thanks you Yes I know everyone here is building a bigger coop. I am told though chickens will drink out of a muddy puddle and as humans we give them too much. HAHA, coming from my 85 yr old grandad who thinks chooks are great egg source. He showed me pix of his coop LOL one roost under a bit...

Sorry, you can't have my 3 1/2 year old chickens that give me an egg everyday, sometimes 2! You'll have to make do with making your sausage out of your own chickens!
Like I said-better nutrition provides eggs even when elderly!
I pity your poor senior citizens-I sure hope my...
We never get snow ... Was thinking of making a play area for them with a tunnel from the pop shute to a larger fenced in play area. We don't have preditors like you do in the states and we live in suburbia. Biggest problem is our toy poodle todd who is yet to learn to be afraid of the...
This is our mow n grow coop. She will house six chickens eventually. Currently she has two pullets that are almost 6 months old now and laying two a day Babies are only 4 weeks old so wont be intergrated untill they are 16 weeks. Then we will get two more babies.
I feel the need to build...
HAHA I am probably making more work for myself than I really need too. My girls free range and have a great coop. Us humans often make more work for ourselves. Am taking pix of our Mow n Grow to see what you all think. Post later tonight.
As a rule is pvc ok to use when making your coop? We are building our 2nd coop out of recycled materials from an old swingset and have a pvc slide that we were thinking of using for the bottem of the coop nesting box. Ideas? We are using wood from the old sandpit to build the roof and walls...

Picture? I am currently looking for ideas to do the same. We are building a second coop for the big ladies and the 5 week olds can then go into the "mow n grow" while the pullets enjoy the bigger coop to themselves. Untill they are both intergrated I will run them in seperate coops.
Very interesting thanks everyone for sharing. That article was very good. What I got from it is that eggs are best kept unwashed and in the fridge? Anyone else?
My eggs would suffer a death of children who must feel fresh eggs constantly when they are out of the fridge in a wire basket LOL
