Wynadotte question.

I had the same problem, all the hens I came across were really washed out and not attractive at all. I got it in my head to get him some blue laced hens, blue cochin hens, and blue andalusian hens. Does anyone know what that outcome would be? I thought it would be cool to have a blr cochin, lol.

Can layer feed hurt 12 week old Orpingtons?

What will it do to them? I have always fed mine layer at 12 weeks. They are all mixed in with the older gals at that point and will get to it anyway? I have never had a problem with any of my hens.

coyote trap worked real good for hawk with pics

I have a few hawks that fly over my coop, but the crows do chase them away. I have several crows that live around my yard. I never want those crows to leave. They are more then welcome. I also have seen a bald eagle in my yard before. I have never had an issues with them. Hawks yes. I think the...

    Pyrenees issues need advice

Quote: Pam, I have 2 male border collies that are neutered. They mark the fenceline. We have coyotes in our back field and in the 8 years that we have been here have never had a problem with them. Please don't let that be the deciding factor in not neutering your dog. It is much healthier for...

Chickens and ducks together and the risks?

I just posted a thread on here yesterday. I have 2 pekings, and about 30 hens. The pekings are about a year now and have all of a sudden started mounting my hens and really hurting them. They hold them down, and rip at their head. My chickens look terrible and are scared. I am currently looking...

    Confused ducks?

Well I thought she was. I took them from my sister because she had 4, 3 males and 1 female so I took 1 male and the female because she was taking the brunt from the 3 males. She looked terrible. She is smaller then the male, and more feminin looking then him. He is a lot thicker then she is and...

    Confused ducks?

I have two peking ducks, 1 male and 1 female that are living with my 30 hens and 2 roosters. All of a sudden they have become very territorial and chasing my hens around the yard. Today I caught the male holding the hen down ripping at her head, while the female was pecking at her. It almost...

New pics from today! Should I buy Star!

She is very cute. Many horses will rear in the pasture with others. I also owned a horse tha would come up trying to load on a ramp load trailer, but was 100% fine on a step up. Have her eyes checked. She may have vision issues. I would offer him 150.00 cash and say take it or leave it. She is...

Alls I wanted was two or three chickens......

We started out with 6, about 7 years ago. Have been up to 50 at one point. Now I have about 20 hens and 2 roos. Just ordered 6 blue coochins and 6 blue laced wynadottes. Also am getting ready to do a hatch. They are so addictive. And if I feel I have to many, I never have a problem selling them...

    Whole flock dead!

I have lost my flock to a fox before, but there were bodies all over the place. I have also lost a flock and waterer's to the two legged theif! Yep broke in while we were sleeping and took about 10 hens a very nice waterer. We were ticked! Would rather loose them to a predator.

Rats! If they eat poison and the hens eat them..

I would try a non-poisonous method. We used something a few years ago, I can't remember what it was but the rats left dropping in the girls yard and a few of them ate the droppings and died. Just be careful with what you use. Learn from our mistakes.

    EMERGENCY! Survived Beating... Head Trauma

This is not what roo's do! There are many roo's out there that don't attack humans. You were just defending yourself and are trying to make it right. Don't listen to the negative feedback here! If he pulls through, sound to me like he may need some lady companionship to relieve his tension. (He...

Sex these Easter Eggers... Round 2!

I'm sorry I didn't see the top pictures, only the younger ones. I retract my statement. I thought we were talking about the coloring on the younger photos. My bad! I will keep my beak shut!

Sex these Easter Eggers... Round 2!

Quite the variance of answers. I have been raising americauna's "ee" for 7 years now and I can't say the the brown coloring on the wing has ever been evidence of the chick being a rooster. Kind of made me giggle a bit. I would say that chick b is probably a roo because of his stance. And I...

    Plucking feathers

I had something similar happen. I had a buff orpington that I thought was going through molt. Actually all of my older ladies were molting this fall so I didn't think anything of it. Well she never came out of molt. All of her feathers never grew back but she was in good spirits and ate and...
