Following...I too have a hen who is getting a poopy butt all the time lately. She's my best egg layer and lays huge eggs and is laying fine. It started after I gave them Rooster Booster as a de-wormer on the advice of a vet since they were about 6 months and never been de-wormed, so I thought...
LessardFlock, thank you for your post. I felt so lost all those days ago! I did not cull any of my baby girls and we went through many variations of antibiotics until something seemed to work. Before you go the antibiotic route though, consider garlic and/or Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother...
I have a Buff Laced Polish and have been patiently awaiting her first egg. I found this tiny little beauty this morning (egg on right) but I was expecting a white egg from her. Do they also lay cream eggs?
I have one pullet that periodically lays from the roost. It IS so frustrating LOL! She does lay in the nesting box and that's where I found her this morning when I opened the run. So...I think when it does happen from the roost, she is not awake yet? She's been laying since early August and one...
When researching worms (I've got a new pullet with round worms), I did read that some worm(s) can get into eggs...just a thought because it looks like one. I can't remember though which type of worm it was that could pass into eggs, but a google search should tell you.
TammyMCL, there are several posts with good information here concerning both "impacted" crops and "sour" crop. Sounds like your girl has an impacted crop. Put 1 tablespoon of Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother in one gallon of water. Restrict food for 24 hours and massage her crop every few...
MrsB, happy to report that when I went out yesterday afternoon to put meds on her the bump again was just gone...don't know what happened to it. Maybe it fell off? Tissue around eye is still a little swollen so I'm continuing with eye ointment. But wanted to let you know she's doing great...
Chickens do not get diarrhea from laying eggs and certainly your rooster is not laying. Something else is going on with your flock. I would take a fecal sample to a vet and get it tested for worms and/or cocci and don't delay!
Definitely looks full of puss. Have you tried warm compresses? Also, Tractor Supply and Amazon both sell Terramycin ophthalmic ointment. I'd do my best to try and drain that...good luck!
Called my Vet back and they WILL do a fecal test for me...sounded like they didn't really want to but YEAH! Thanks for all the great info and I do not like to treat unless they need it.
Can you get your regular vet to do a fecal test for you? They can test for cocci and worms. Mine won't treat chickens but they will do a fecal test for me.
She is eating and drinking. Sometimes she plays and runs around with her sister but she is definitely not as active as the others. She goes into the coop and roosts and that's where I found her to take her pic this morning. None of my other girls are picking on her which is good.
