I have sit here and read this whole post and loved it, the pictures are fantastic. I love to travel but dh does not. So pictures are always a plus for me. Good luck on the adoption and the chickens. Let us know how it goes.

I started mine Sunday and it looks and smells great. Make sure you rinse rinse rinse. Not a good idea to soak too much seed though. Thought I would soak enough at one time to fill trays on 3 different days. By today my seed really smelled that was soaking hope it does alright. Have been rinsing...
Hold a chick upside down and if it fights its a roo and if it just calms down its a hen. Saw it on here and granddaughter wanted to try it and see if it works My guess is it's like all the other wives tales 50/50 either way.
I was thinking of this too. My granddaughter did the "hold them upside down test" and wanted to know if she got any of them right but couldn't figure out how to mark them. I think I will try the twist ties real loose. Thanks for the reply salunra and thanks for asking this question...
I have a hen who has been broody all summer, but has yet to hatch eggs. She just lost her last batch 3 days ago and will not get off the nest. I am sure she gets up to eat but not much. My question is any idea how long she can stay on a empty nest? Do I need to make her get up for her sake?
Just found one of my 3 month olds in her run laying on her side, when I picked her up to see what was wrong discovered one of her wings is missing. I have no idea what happened to her., No blood or anything like that. Any ideas? Will she be alright with only one? Any one have info on this kind...
I have determined she is ill. This morning rooster was coughing or sneezing had runny eye also. His looked like pus or infection. I have got them on duramycin-10 mixed at 800mg per gallon of water. Now what else can I do? They are in a pen by themselves so no need to worry about rest at this...
I not sure what happened but one of my bantams hens is keeping her eye closed and it has a slight water discharge. New to chickens and not sure what to do. Has been this way for 3 days and not getting worse but not getting better either. Please help Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just make sure they have plenty of water and a cool place to hide and they should be fine. Mine are 3 weeks old and they are outside in a cage all day.
Most will perch on their own if you give them something to perch on. I keep mine in rubbermaid tub in house and don't want them to get out so I wait until there 3 weeks old and put them in a cage I have set up out side with sticks for roost and they get on by themselves after 1--3 days. Hope...
I keep water in the coop for the chickens at night, do I also need to keep food in there for them or should I keep food in the run outside? Opinion's needs Please thanks
OK thanks that's what I was thinking but hoping I didn't need that many coops.lol Another question for you do you feed in run or coop or both,I have water in coop but not food. chicks always seem starving no matter how I do it.
