    138 Degree Temperature Spike!

It looks like the heat was too much for all of the eggs. The chicken eggs ended up not hatching as well.

    138 Degree Temperature Spike!

I candled on Sunday, and unfortunately, it looks like the quail eggs were too small to survive the temperature spike. One of the two chicken eggs looks like it'll make it.

How to turn this CRAZY thing on!

You need a 12 VDC power supply. If you look on the back of things like cell phone charges, they will usually say something like output 5 VDC 0.5 amps. You need something that says output 12 VDC. Then you need to hook the wires up to the DC portion of your little thermostat. You can usually find...

Why a fan in an incubator?

My hatch rate is lower than I would like. I think it is about 40%, but there are a few factors besides a fan that could be causing that. For my next model I'm looking at adding a fan.

Why a fan in an incubator?

Yeah, my incubator is working alright, other than a few minor issues. It has gone through a few minor changes, but the light bulb is mounted on the side of a styrofoam container. I have a water bottle to increase humidity and provide some mass for helping moderate the heat.

Why a fan in an incubator?

In my homemade incubator there is no fan, and I don't do anything special without it. It just means that there may be a hot spot or two.

Power Out 3 Hour 50 Eggs In Bator !

At least you have a generator. That is still on the list of "need to obtain". I wish you luck in getting the power back on, but I am curious. Is it your house to, or just your garage that is having power issues. Perhaps it was the three attempts to get this posted that muddled that up.

    138 Degree Temperature Spike!

The other day I was working the basement, and as I was working, to my horror, I heard a faint beeping noise. You see, I have created a homemade incubator as an electronics project. While creating the incubator, I decided to add an alarm feature if the temperature raises above 102 degrees F. It...

    Egg Turner?

I would like to see pictures. Which option did you end up going with? Did you get the 220 Volt egg turner, or did you get a voltage converter?

Most of the chickens we are hatching are mixes. We have been hatching A&M quail as well.

    Thermostat wiring -- help please!

You want the hot wire going to the #1 section( or section #2, as it doesn't matter as long as it goes straight to the thermostat.). You want neutral going to the lightbulb, so you don't accidentally electrocute yourself thinking the power is off to the lightbulb or heating element...

Thanks both of you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, the little guy was already to weak when I went to intervene. The little guy died in my hands. :-(

Hand feeding or putting it down?

Hi All, One of my new hatches isn't doing to well. I've let nature run its course a couple of times before with chics who aren't doing well. You know, survival of the fittest; but I was wondering what if anything can you do to help a chic that is just really weak and lethargic after hatching...

Sorry to hear that it didn't make it. Are you going try incubating again in the future?
