    Meaties, The sequel

Sorry I didn't keep this up to date. Life got really busy. Didn't have much of a chance to take pictures during the day. They have been put in the freezer, and some in our belly. Lost a few this time, and had no where near the growth I did with last years bunch. Different factors: 1-...

    The ugly chickenling packing peanut

Our feed store got in a shipment of chicks this morning from Privett. Intermingled amongst the 100 black sex links were approximately ten of these. Anyone have any clue what they are?

I have a bead on some decent quality hatching eggs, but I am not good at incubating eggs. My success/fail rate is horrible. I would rather someone hatch them and me buy the chicks. You have heard the old saying, "A watched pot never boils." I can tell you, a watched incubator never hatches...

They are looking nice. I will get pics of mine up this week. I have been so busy with other projects, I have neglected this thread. Mine are coming along nicely though.

    Meaties, The sequel

If it were me I would bump it to at least 20%, but I have never, one single day, given either my layers or meaties, medicated food. I am about to lose one of my 50. I am marking it up to failure to thrive, but it has been trampled and is a weakling. It was smaller than all the other chicks when...

Housing, pens, coops for meat birds I need ideas

I used a re-purposed trampoline for my meaties. I lived in town and couldn't move my "tractor" around as much as I would have liked. I just kept fresh wood shavings down and when the batch was done, the shavings went into my compost pile. Pics can be found on my meaties thread.

Don't know if this helps, but I have had better luck with Grizzly motors on my table saw than I have with a GE brand motor. Went through 2 GE motors in 18 months on my table saw. The Grizzly has held 4 years and still going strong.

    Meaties, The sequel

I use Dumor chick starter/grower the entire time. At four weeks, I start adding some 28% game bird slowly to the feed. By the eighth week, I have my mix ratio at 24%. People have blasted me for my protein ratio on here, saying it is too much, but I didn't lose one bird last year. At eight weeks...
