I also posted over on BYH but posting here too since there’s so many of you kind folks who may own goats or other small herd animals who can input. Here’s what I posted:
Well, stray dogs attacked our goats a few evenings ago and unfortunatley lost one herd member. They did a lot of damage in a...
Entry #3: Mulder (Mulderina) gave us a fresh turkey egg at 5 this evening. I picked it up and sat it with the duck egg in a basket near the sawmill so I could take them back. They all grew up hearing the mill run, and I realized it seemed fitting to pose the egg with a Pine log waiting to be milled.
Day 7: March 17th, 2026
While out picking up in the yard I noticed Mulder (Mulderina now) nestled down in the hay. I waited at a distance for awhile and went over when the coast was clear to collect a turkey egg freshly laid at 5 this evening. Our duck left us one this morning also. Thank you...
Day 6: March 16th, 2026
Thunderstorms at 4 AM followed by snow flurries in the late morning. You can’t see it well but here looking into the woods between the rain and flurry times
Day 5: March 15th, 2026
Firstly I realized today I have been accidentally using 2025 instead of 2026 in my posts, oops! Tax season has me thinking last year still. Well, today is a Slow Cooker Sunday, featuring some Crockpot BBQ Chicken. We use this recipe often, and it’s a good way to either...
I fell in love with a particular Brittany Spaniel at the clinic I worked at years ago and she made me always want to have a little Brittany for myself one day.
Knowing us though, the strays in need always show up and find us, so we will end up with a nice mix down the road I am sure!
Thank you for safe wishes for everyone! It seemed to be an alright night, but more to come this weekend. The state has beautiful weather mostly, but these tornado seasons and hurricane seasons always make me a little nervous. We have been fortunate over the years with all the storms. Thank you...
Day 4: March 14th, 2025
Meet the Meats - a Black Vulture couple who is back at it again in the old barn nesting this year. Two eggs are being incubated, and these birds are welcomed friends because they are so full of personality. Though our flock is always wary to see them fly over, as they...
Day 3: March 13th, 2025
Well of course I didn’t finish this post either! This morning our hard working Black Swedish Duck graced us with yet another egg. It has felt so good to have ducks again and be able to bake and cook with their eggs. Plus, they are fun to watch as they play and swim and...
Day 2: March 12th, 2026
I went to visit my friend this morning as colder and windier weather moved in. I have been missing her alot as I always do, but as things change here I wish she was here to see everything and be a part of it. I know that she was ill at the end, but there were so many...
Day #1:
In the last hours of the day, we sit listening to James Spann our state’s wonderful weatherman with live coverage of a storm system moving into and through the state. For years we have trusted his wisdom on these storms and will be listening intently through the evening. Almost the same...
Wolf Branch Homestead's Project 365
Hi everyone, and welcome to our BYC Project 365 thread, where we will attempt to document some of each day's happenings through photos here at Wolf Branch Homestead. Based in Alabama, my husband and I have worked alongside eachother since 2014 on this...
I haven’t updated this in awhile wow but the Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are on the move now. Hummingbird Central and Journey North migration maps for first sighting reports have a few spotted in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina now - get ready. None here yet for us
Entry #2: First time turkey parents here, and two days ago we confirmed our turkey originally named “Mulder” as a youngster was now actually “Mulderina” - proudly displaying her second egg from today amongst my favorite little wildflowers in bloom.
Entry #1: Our very first turkey egg from a Bourbon Red next to our Black Swedish duck egg. Very surprised by how similar in size they are resting in a little flower shaped dish together.
